You should leave it boxed if its like a classic and will go up in value like stuff like Pokemon or Final Fantasy. If it's something from a relatively new anime i would unbox it and have it on display. Its all up to you are you buying to make money off figures or for decoration?

Hahaha it does look like a Rapier doesn't it? I kept saying sword because at the time I didn't know what to call it so I said sword as it's all encompassing. Rapier is a type of sword. Thanks for that good find :)
I don't think you can change the base that it comes with, unless you can find a person who makes anime figure bases. I don't know anyone who makes those.
They make the base bigger just to emphasize Asuna's twisting action from top to bottom :). If the base is in normal height, you can't appreciate well it's poses along with effects.
