Weedy rice is a feral form of rice that aggressively outcompetes cultivated rice. Infestations cause an estimated $45 million in economic losses in the United States each year. Biologists Kenneth Olsen and Marshall Wedger in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis are working to understand weedy rice, which has become herbicide resistant through rapid evolution. Here, the researchers visit rice fields in Arkansas to inspect fields and talk with farmers about this aggressive weed.

Maaaaaybe this was f*cking obvious with a basic understanding of evolution and we should switch to organic farming now?!
