I almost went to St. James before going into nursing. Did you research St. James beforehand? How are you enjoying St. James? I've heard mixed reviews. The good thing is the tuition is the lowest around. Should have known they throw you into lectures day one. That's med school. Or really anything medical. They do it in nursing school. Lol Keep making the videos!🙂
Hi, thank you for your video, I am upcoming student. I have a question relate to the school calendar about the last day of classes, when are your normally leaving the island for break? You leave exactly the same last day of class or before it? Thank you
Hi, good luck with school. I look fwd to your blogs, I’ve been interested in SJSM for a while. Do they record lectures so you can watch them again online? How are the facilities? Will they allow you to video a campus tour? Thanks again for blogging.
For any American or Canadian considering applying to Caribbean schools, please only look into SGU, Ross, AUC, and Saba (The Big 4). And I can’t stress enough how important it is to look into the school’s accreditations! Normally I wouldn’t recommend Caribbean med school to anyone, since I dislike their “for-profit” business model and the fact that many are scam institutions with no/low barriers to entry that will accept anyone with a pulse (i.e. kids straight out of high school, applicants with no mcat/low mcat, extremely low gpa, etc.), will gladly take your money, but guarantee abysmal match rates for their graduates along with tremendous student debt with no residency or even medical degree to show for it.
What island are you on? Did you take online class to help pay tuition? if so how much loan can you take? What is the cost for 1 or 2 bedroom apartment? I will be starting Sept. Thanks for the help.
Hi Gladys, i will be starting in September as well. I've been trying to figure out about the expenses for apartments. They told me it can be much cheaper if i rent with someone.
Hi I was accepted but having mixed feelings. I am looking forward to further updates from you so I can know what’s happening there and your views based on your experience. Thank you.
there are some Facebook groups but they are rarely updated. I would book a hotel or airbnb for when you get to the island and you can find a place while you are here so you can actually tour the apartment/house in person
any update on your progress? All reviews of Caribbean schools as a whole including graduates all say the same thing. Students are there to learn and to have more of a self taught attitude and according to them all say, it is what you make of it. you study hard and take it serious and you will do well. I am interested in SJ and have heard the big 3 are preferred I too don't want to waste time and money. Your thoughts.
@@lolgeselle yes I would. sjsm is accredited and it is a very cheap option. at any Caribbean med school you are self studying and doing most things on your own, so for the cheaper tuition it is worth it
I personally wouldn't pay all that tuition money to get into St James and have a low chance of residency match. I would go back and improve my GPA and get into American school or at least more established Caribbean schools. I feel like you want to take a short cut and taking a very high risk right now. You are young and have plenty of time to try and get into American schools. Just a friendly advice and wish you all the best
Just throwing this out there after watching this video. This girl did 3 semesters at a University then went to community college and now in a medical school. Odd transition to say the least, but how is this possible? St. James has an attractive tuition price but a very low barrier of entry. Anyone can be accepted to that school. You don't need a bachelors degree and don't need MCAT scores to enter that "MEDICAL" school. I repeat no MCAT no bachelors required. That's a magnet for any Tom, Dick and Harry that like the idea of becoming a doctor but don't have the ambition or skills to be come one. That school looks like it's just interested in getting money from underachievers chasing a pipe dream to be honest. Their website says they are accredited by some Caribbean accreditation organization but it turns out it's "pending." This girl says after 2 years "you're set." She seems sweet but misinformed, honestly unqualified and is wasting money. However, good luck in your journey. I would rather the traditional route to med school and beyond.
Hi there DarkWater4Eva, I understand your concerns and appreciate the honesty from your perspective. I know your comment was 5 years ago and want to update any students who are interested/contemplating SJSM in 2024. I am a current med student at SJSM on the Anguilla campus, started Sept 2023. Did 4 years medical science undergrad, 2 years working in a hospital/volunteering + other extracurriculars before attending here. Checked the world directory of medical schools a few days ago and SJSM is on there for ECFMG certification so it is accredited currently (not updated but it is there). I am on a full ride tuition covered because of my MCAT score, I also had interviews at Canadian medical schools + a very strong profile for medical school applications before coming here. Just to let everyone know, the comprehensive exams at the end of basic sciences (MD5) filter out any "Tom, Dick and Harry" with most students not passing, only those who really put in the effort. Anyone maybe be accepted, but surviving the standardized exams and passing is the marathon. The Caribbean route has provided me an opportunity at a much lower cost than attending in Canada or the States, and I will still be able to become a great physician with the work I put in. Attending SJSM was the best decision I have made, I love it here and can't wait for clinicals. Cheers
