It would be awesome if you showed a lot more of the trail and a lot less of you talking about random crap. People watch hiking videos to see the trails not feed your narcissistic need to share your personal opinions about everything.
I’d rather have 10 viewers who like my channel for me, than 10,000 who like the channel for the trees and a false version of my personality optimized for positivity and viewing numbers.
@@JaruWalks You don't have to be fake to show the trail you are walking down. You don't even have to stop ranting about shit. Just turn the camera off of you and onto the environment as you rant. We don't need to see you if we can hear you...unless you just desperately need to be seen as well as heard. I've watched a ton of hikers that have just as much to say but didn't need to be seen to say it. It's nice watching the scenery going by while listening to someone pontificate.
@@mjeh1 I’m here as much to have an eye to eye conversation as I am to show nature. It’s literally not possible to universalize my experience to the satisfaction of every viewer. The viewers have divergent preferences. You’re rushing to ad hominem value judgments that aren’t based if you knew me personally. If you could sit in my seat and read every comment on every video, as I do, you would see that what I’m saying is true.
@@JaruWalks But you are not and can not have an "eye to eye conversation" with a camera. Yours are the only eyes present. Producing "hiking videos" in which 90% of the video is your face talking to the camera certainly seems like it's all about you receiving attention much more than it is about hiking. That doesn't seem like ad hominem, it seems like a logical deduction. It's certainly fine if it's all about you and not the actual hike. After all, they are your videos but at least be honest about it. "Showing a tree" isn't a bad thing. In fact I'd wager it's what most people that watch hiking videos actual want to see.
@@mjeh1 I just said, this channel is 50% about me, and 50% about what’s around me. If it would help you out, I am happy to 100% say this channel is absolutely about me. I’m not interested in producing or watching videos whose main focus is nature scenery. You’re asking me to make content that I’m not interested in making. I love listening to podcasts where people talk about ideas, no nature and no video. Are these channels vain and narcissistic? No. This is half a channel where you see nature and half where you hear me discuss ideas. If you genuinely don’t enjoy it, then you should watch a different channel. It makes no sense to demand me to make content I don’t want to make. I’m walking 8000 miles and making videos until 4 am with the time that I don’t even have. Everything I’m producing is with thought and careful intention. Reducing my expression to terms like “random crap”, “ranting about shit”, “‘narcissism”, “desperately need to be seen”, etc. are ad hominem. You would not say that to your friend, you should not say that to a stranger on the internet.
So glad u r feeling better. And stunning day (and nighttime) captures on video. Appreciate so much you sharing your perspective along the way. It is inspiring on so many levels!
This video is great in so many ways! I loved every bit of watching it! Beaver tree, Solar eclipse!, Barred Owl, swamp (😬), cab ride, explaing Mt. Katahdin. I love listening to you talk and how you explain things and ideas. I would never mute you! Thank you for sharing your experiece! Stay safe! 🙏♥️
So much to love in this video! The beaver tree. I imagine every day he wakes up, scurries to the big tree thinking "this will be the day!" The cabbie impersonation made me laugh, the porcupine was awesome, and wading the swamp? Impressive. 💜
This is one of your best videos. Think I have seen them all. Great commentary, interesting videos of the trail itself and special videos of wildlife. Thanks!
Hello Jaru ~ Hypersensitive is what you are. Just loved 'walking' with you and listening to your thoughts & comments. Thanks very much for sharing your hike.
Awesome Vlog! Beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, many connections with others, great commentary, a majestic and creepy mansion and a swamp walk. W🤩W! I’m loving following your adventure Jaru. Thank you! Safe travels! 🥾
Excellent video all around. So many different encounters, with people, wildlife, varied terrain, and with an earthquake and eclipse. Quite eventful! Enjoyed the long talk about Lost Boy and Sparrow and their changes of plans, the winter weather on Mama K and in the Whites, etc. You are definitely keeping it moving, despite physical health challenges.
17:51 loaner clothes Congratulations on finishing! 32:16 Haystack got off trail when he reached Connecticut. He said he wasn’t sure if he was going to finish. He only has 500 miles left.
I think once you get all these thousands of miles done on all three trails you should go into acting. I honestly think with some training you could truly be a great actor. Love the taxi story and the accent. LOL Keep on putting one foot in front of the other and I'm going to watch your entire journey. Love the owl sounds and it makes me feel like I'm right out there on the trail with you Sheila from Vancouver BC
Mosey is great! I'm sorry I missed you. I was in High Point Park (working) and it was insane how many came there. I'm glad you got to see some of the cool old buildings. Jersey has a lot. Also I'm glad to see that you are feeling better and looking healthy. ohhhhh.....the wildlife in NJ is the best!! Happy hiking.
Great video. Partly because you weren't going up any bloody mountains, I much prefer the swamps, grasslands, fields. But also so much interesting content, animals, birds, people, eclipsis, earthquakes, deep water, hostels and wet socks. You got just about everything going on there.
Oh I can't wait to "experience" PCT thru you. I'm really looking forward! Have you announced your plan yet? I might have missed it. Will you be going there next? You're so close to the end of the AT! You've done so well.
My son hates New Jersey also, but it’s because of all the traffic on the other side of the state that drives him NUTS! Glad you retracted the statement about Rocksylvania😂
I know this was a while back for you now but man you gotta be careful in those swamps! The bottom can be several feet of thick mud and if you end up in that when there is nobody else out there for miles it would be bad.
I walked a half mile through that flooded zone. There was not deep mud at the bottom of it. In New Hampshire and Maine there are bogs, which are different, and I fell into them thru the snow. If that flood plain in NJ had been like the bogs further north I would have turned around.
Ahhh! You took my hint on the porcupines! ❤ Still worried about you. You look dehydrated. Giardiasis can kick your ass. Hope you are doing better and you escaped swamp coodies 😅
Hoping you don’t still have giardia….or cryptosporidium or just good old fashioned E-Coli 😅. It can take weeks. And maybe more meds. Or swamp coodies….Lots or swamp coodies. When you were wading through it I was 🫣😬 hoping you had no breaks in your skin giving those parasites/bacteria a portal. Get well!
No, I’m planning to hike through to Katahdin. I’m behind my planned schedule, but I also don’t expect them to open Katahdin until May 25th to 30th, which I’m ahead of schedule for. I don’t want to break the continuous footpath. The difficulty level of the whites in April could exceed what I’m mentallly capable of as katahdin did in January, but that will be determined once I’m there and actually fail, if I fail. If I have to exit the whites, then I would cross to start the pct then come back later in the summer to complete the whites and katahdin. But if the whites are passable, then I will hike thru even if it handicaps my pace. At least that’s the vision I have now.
I’ve always been athletic, but I don’t have a long distance hiking or ultra marathon background prior to this. My only training was hiking the 800 mile Arizona trail last fall.
Right? He literally picked me up in New Jersey but he refuses to give rides in New Jersey. He’s like a character out of Seinfeld or curb your enthusiasm haha
IF YOU ARE EVER CAMPING DEEP IN THE WOODS ALONE AND WAKE IN THE EARLY A.M. HOURS BECAUSE OF A PAIN IN YOUR LEG AND LOOK TO SEE THAT YES, IT WASN'T A DREAM. THERE REALLY IS A WOLF EATING YOUR LEG. IN THIS SITUATION, IT IS BEST NOT TO TRY AND RUN HIM OFF. JUST LET HIM FINISH UP AND GO HIS WAY. MAYBE PAT HIM ON THE HEAD AND SCRATCH BEHIND HIS EARS WHILE TELLING HIM WHAT A GOOD BOY HE IS SO HE DOES NOT PERCEIVE YOU AS A THREAT. THAT WAY WITH THE WOLF'S BELLY FULL HE WON'T BE BACK FOR SECONDS LATER AND START NIBBLING WHO KNOWS WHERE. MALE CAMPERS HAVE MORE VULNERABILITY THERE. SO NOW YOU CAN PITCH YOUR TENT IN CONFIDENCE AND HAPPY CAMPING!
