Have seen some people do bare bottom with a container containing sand for things like the wrasses which like to sleep in sand. However, I would recommend people do use a sand bed if new.
I've deep dived into your channel hard. Your channel is easily the best channel to watch for beginners. Your videos have answered so many questions I've had that others just glanced over. Trying to start my first saltwater tank once I move later this year. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Emmanuel! My neighbors tank is still chuggin'. They drop off two five gallon buckets once a week or so for RODI water, and I take care of the tank when they're away. Haven't done a water change on that tank in almost a year! Probably about time!!! Fish only though so quite easy!
You can use freshwater sand if it's quartz-based, not if it's silica-based (because dinos), but it won't help buffer your system the same way aragonite sand will - a perk people seem to forget about when talking sand-beds.
i love the videos i wish i watched these when i started but i just wanted to say i’m good on the sand shifting inverts because my tank is a 20 gal with 80-90 snails so it’s nice and clean lol
Another great help on my journey sir!! So would you say Bimini pink would he the one if I want a Goby shrimp pair? Will sand sifting stars be ok on that too thanks
See it coulddd be okay, but with such a variation of grain sizes, I've heard it eventually separates on its own by size and you'll have these unusually pockets of different sized sand. Whether or not it will work with your choice of animals also depends on the way you set it up but I don't think it's necessarily not worth trying it out
I agree with our blogger Max. I would go with Fiji pink instead. You can alway add in a few pieces of crushed coral down the line to give them something to move around!
@@Max-kd2gh Thank you both, Fiji it is then sprinkle some larger substrate on top for them IF needed 👌 Keep up the great work guys! Informative and not scary like some people make it!
did anyone use freshwater sand for saltwater aquarium please reply me.because in my country carib sea sand was so expensive thats why i need to use freshwater sand grain size (0.5-1.5)
I really look forward to your vids. I think I would like them with years of seniority in the hobby too. Ive said before, very well produced and entertaining. Big ups!
Subscribed today to your channel, it offers all what I need for my new tank. Can you please tell me which sand is in tank at 2.55 with sand sifting goby? Is it CaribSea Special grade? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I took that video at a tank in my local library. It looks like it could be special grade or bimini pink. Both are a relatively medium grain size with some larger pieces added in.
About deep sandbeds; the amount of flow/water that actually reaches the anaerobic part is close to zero, so i don't see the so called benefit of removing nitrates anyway. If you could let the water flow through that deep sandbed, then we're talking. (but that would have to be done very slowly, else you're bringing oxygen in)
Great comparisons on the different types of sands available. Sometimes the choice you make can be a daunting one. I myself use the Carib sea special reef grade because of the flow i have in my main display.
