I successfully cycled and established my first saltwater tank 3 weeks ago (using Dr Tims One and Only/Amonia, with live rock and live sand). Have a couple of soft corals, 1 LPS and a few hermit crabs. Everything is looking great! Yesterday, I converted one of my other freshwater tanks to saltwater but didn't use Dr Tims One and Only/Amonia, but used live sand and live rock from my first saltwater tank. Do I still need to cycle my tank? Seems all the parameters today seem good. .
My anemone was done when I left home for 12 days and was expecting that the tank will be a mess because of that anemone when I will be back. Left my tank with just blue light on with very less intensity about 25 watt. Came home and to my surprise it gained its 50% colour back, looked better and took food. So what I have learned is less light only blue and feed once a week and just leave the aquarium as it is.
I hate to laugh, but the censorship of the toasted fish like a body from a news crime scene made me laugh. Had he not censored it I wouldn't have thought twice about seeing a deceased clownfish.
Wow! I'm so goad I stumbled out to this video it explains a lot! Especially why lids from specialty stores charge so much. Totally understand the cost. Lexan or of type product is not cheap to start with. Thank you
UV has worked for me in the past to beat Dinos. I usually do a 48 hour blackout and run UV at the same time and the problem subsides. However the Dinos I'm dealing with now which are basically a rust color film that accumulates on the sand bed the UV sterilizer hasn't worked at all. I've tried manual removal, upping my nutrients, lowering my light schedule and nothing seems to work.
Looks good. Im a few yrs behind here lol. But why is the backup drain not flowing into the same section as the primary drain . Its going ineo the return pull section
Im a fan of the fluval 123 for my first tank but im concerned with the lighting. A lot of reefers place their lights quite high im guessing to distribute it. But with the stock fluval it is built into the lid, would this be a problem? I would like to grow a variety of coral and i like the fluval 123 for its built in filter!
Dope harem!! Is it still possible for clowns in a harem to breed? Im guessing it comes down to space but also how would they pair with so many possibilities
Its a shame this channel doesnt upload anymore. Hes so nice to listen to and the way he explane things is amazing and easy to understand. Wish you and youre family all the best. Greats from the Netherlands.
My urchin does not hide. He has one small snail shell and two tiny rocks he uses as hats other than that he is always in the open. Despite having hiding areas and plenty of shells to choose from to use as hats
Hi Mathew I need your help regarding my cycle procedure. I am cycling my saltwater tank for 6 weeks now with fish in method. I also used API quick starr and I have 6 fish in my tank However I did not recieve any ammonia and nitrite spike. Though I thoroughly followed the instruction in the test kit. I only got Nitrate reading which is at 10 ppm. Does my tank has already been cycled? Thank you in advance.
So i have 3 chambers in my AIO and a tiny hole at the bottom face of chamber 1. Do i put the cap or the filter suction cap looking? There is a sponge with a tiny circular slit that matches the cap end. Also i received small blue balls as well as larger black balls with what i think is a carbon media. Where do those go? Finally 3rd chamber has return pump.
Just did this test for the first time and it wasn't bad. Thanks for the video because the others were horrible. I am starting a 110 gallon fowler tank so I wanted piece of mind that my measurements are accurate. One note. My kit did not come with a plastic cover for the needle so I was a tad confused at 5:29 but that plastic cover is not necessary. You can thread and unthread the needle without it. My nitrate read 2.05 and multiple by 10 since I diluted = 20.10 ppm
how do you like it so far? once a tank is cycled, I wouldnt imagine it would be something to test too often, probably test phosphates weekly or bi weekly more often?
@@xisotopex the parameters all test fine but unfortunately another large die off about 3.5-4 weeks into it. I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I just got an ammonia checker so I will be taking that reading tomorrow.
I bought a lot (as in auction lot) of Hanna checkers and this one was included. The text instructions for dilution are horrible. The official video is crap. Even though you were ranting against this checker, your instructions were perfect for the dilution step. Going to use it up and when the reagents are gone Ill mount it to my wall and wax fondly of the days I used this POS.
I just cycled my 75gal all-fish saltwater tank using Dr. Tim's one and only bacteria and Dr, Tim's ammonia method, and it was cycled within sixteen days. Thanks, Matthew
Loved your video! If we say you'd like to get rid of the red algae, can you then just remove it and it will be completely gone forever, or would you have to deal with it forever in the aquarium when first introduced? I'm starting up a new reef tank, and thought I could have some macro algae in the tank in the beginning. But I'm afraid if I can never completely get rid of it again.
