As an American some of whose ancestors were Ulster Irish Protestants from County Antrim, I always wondered why the Presbyterians turned their backs on the rebellion and ended up so staunchly loyalist. This Professor's explanation clears up much of my questions but breaks my heart, as it seems that the British used the age-old divide and conquer tactic to get the Protestants on their side and get them to turn their backs on their fellow countrymen. So tragic.
