Have you ever experienced any negativity from soldiers towards the fact you’re an officer? I know there can be some unsavoury opinions about officers from the non commissioned ranks because you could be in many years less but still have authority over them. If so how have you dealt with this?
@tgfrenchman3258
@tgfrenchman3258 4 года назад
The only time officer's get a bad rep, is if straight out of training they act extremely bossy toward fellow OR (other ranks). If you are to be an officer this is a big no no. As an officer you should be respecting the soldiers you are in charge of, as they will have more experience than you.
@djrxp
@djrxp 4 года назад
Hi Lachlan. I'm pleased to say that I haven't really! Simply put, if you work hard for them, they will work hard for you. There is healthy banter that happens (which is mega important) but everyone knows the line. It's important to listen to the soldiers, especially your Sgt and Cpls, and they will give great advice. It's equally important to know that you call the shots and set the standard. Everyone is on the same team at the end of the day!

Is the start of everyones training the same for like every role? Let's say if I was going for RLC - Driver, and my friend was going for Infantry, is our basic training the same for the first 14 weeks? I've looked at all roles and for all, it says step 1: you'll do your regular 14 week basic training. But it says that for all the roles, so is the first 14 week basic training the same for all roles?

Louis Garrett but it is still basic training. If you join infantry depending on where you are in the country you will either do phase 1&2 at Catterick or Pirbright. If you’re 16 phase 1 will be at AFC Harrogate and later phase 2 at Catterick which is 14 weeks as phase 1 is 49 weeks
@djrxp
@djrxp 4 года назад
Hi Lewis. Let me clear it up. If you want to join the Infantry then you will now do phase 1 & 2 training at Catterick. If you are 16 then you do phase 1 at Harrogate and phase 2 at Catterick.

Hi there, thanks for the comment. Sandhurst differs as it is training and developing leaders (hence the commissioning course being 44 weeks). So you will be expected to perform at a higher standard and you will be exposed to different challenges. I'll give one example: At Catterick, you train to be a soldier and the main job is a rifleman within a rifle platoon. At Sandhurst you train to be a platoon commander. So you will do all roles within a platoon to understand the responsibilities of each role and how to best use them. Good luck with it mate!

@tgfrenchman3258

Depends on what role you are searching for. For a lot of combat based roles there is no qualifications required. Have a look on the website at different roles and if you are applicable to apply. There is also the option of retaking your maths GCSE, as if the army doesn't work out, then basic GCSES in maths and english is required for 99% of jobs.. Hope this helps.
@somalichild4209

TGFrenchman I’ll happily do a combat role,I just don’t think I’ll pass my GCSE’s and the army has always interested me ( and thanks)
@tgfrenchman3258
@tgfrenchman3258 4 года назад
@@somalichild4209 if a combat role is defintely what you are searching for then you will not need a maths GCSE. However, if you are younger than 18 years old you will not be doing the exact same training displayed in the video. Instead you wlll do almost 50 weeks of training alongside education lessons at harrogate.
@somalichild4209
@somalichild4209 4 года назад
TGFrenchman so if I join at 17 I’ll be doing lessons and then I turn 18 I’ll actually start doing proper training
@tgfrenchman3258
@tgfrenchman3258 4 года назад
@@somalichild4209 no, you will still be doing the training if you applied at 17, but alongside the training you would have lessons. This would last for 49 weeks at harrogate. Even if you turn 18, during the training you will still be required to complete the rest of the 49 weeks of training+lessons. You don't just transfer from harrogate to catterick because you turned 18. Hope this makes sense

5-week basic training is too less for a soldier to become someone who can fight for its nation. 35 years is too less, at least 60 days. You can't develop the soldiers mentally and physically just in 35 days man. You might develop a solider who can fight, but the main part is the mental, what if he just doesn’t want to fight when the war starts.
@tgfrenchman3258
@tgfrenchman3258 4 года назад
it depends on what role they do, if they aren't a combat role why would they require having to do more training. For Army Infantry the training is 28 weeks long.
@djrxp
@djrxp 4 года назад
Hi Paul - I do know know of any basic training that is just 5 weeks long. This video is about the recruits being IN week 5 of training. They still have a long way to go. As I know it, all basic training (phase 1) in the Army is at least 12 weeks. Then you move on to phase 2 training and specialise in your chosen career path.
