@@AegonCallery-ty6vy Relax, it's a figure of speech. There are plenty of them in the world for all different things. People say it's *freezing* in winter even though the temperatures themselves may not be at or below freezing. Nothing new.

Hello Notasmurf 👋. I see you've moved on from Weekly Weather Updates 😂😂😂. Northern Ireland has always been cool, I was born there, so foggy and snowy in the winter times, when warm or cool plus wet in the summer times. Pretty typical for the UK because our weather is always going on a roller-coaster.

It has been so hot here in Suffolk! 26 degrees!🥵 I hope this winter delivers a blizzard, because for the first time in my life we had no snow.

Monthly average doesnt count. Look at a 2 week one. For forecast look to the future so last week in june first in july average.

According to the Met Office, June 2024 as an anomaly of -0.3c, (provisional to the 26th of June) based on data averages during the period 1961-1990 averages. This is a standard period of reference for monitoring climate change as recommended by the WMO (World Met. Organisation). The Central England Temperature (CET) record, is a meteorological dataset originally published by Professor Gordon Manley in 1953 and subsequently extended and updated in 1974, following many decades of painstaking work. The monthly mean surface air temperatures, for the Midlands region of England, are given (in degrees Celsius) from the year 1659 to the present. The Met Office have also been compiling Maximum, Minimum and Mean Daily Central England Temperatures data files since January 1878. The following stations are used by the Met Office to compile the CET data: Rothamsted, Malvern, Squires Gate and Ringway.

According to The Met Office, the Central England Temperature (CET) series is the longest-running instrumental temperature series in the world. By collating and combining early instrumental records, the series charts monthly temperature statistics from 1659. The series is representative of a region enclosed by Lancashire, London and Bristol. the Central England Temperature series, is representative of a region enclosed by Lancashire, London and Bristol.

What low pressure? only in the very North of the country, where I live in Somerset it's dry and fairly warm for at least the next 10 days.

@@dd7521 Warmest temperatures on record do not always mean heatwaves. May was record breaking in terms of the *average* temperatures for the month, keyword: *average* here. It's very important to know this stuff, especially if you have an interest in meteorology.

That's why this 'monthly average' is pretty useless guven the high anomalies between the start and the end.

@@AegonCallery-ty6vy It's not useless if you understand how they work. A monthly average temperature as you've guessed, takes the whole month into consideration rather than a single day. If June has more colder than average temperatures than warmer then that will ultimately lead to more of a below average month on the whole. If below average and higher temperatures are more evenly distributed then of course that evens the average for the month out. Meteorology can be complex understandably but it all makes sense when you have a grasp on it.

As in average temperatures for the UK in June - low 20s Celsius.

Even late june? I think it's probably best to not take a monthly average as 'normal' but pinpoint it to say a 2 week average. If forecasted i would take the last week in june and the first week in august as an average. We all know that the start and the end of june can vary greatly.

I meant late June - averages in the south up to around 21C in the last week of June. However, this average doesn't take into account the last few Junes which have generally been a lot warmer
