I'M BACK! With the final week of planning & Meet the Teacher Night!

I don't think you realize how many lives you've touched here in the RU-vid teacher community. It's really a reflection of the lives you'll touch as a teacher and as the amazing person you are to all of us. I can't imagine anyone skipping through this vlog (or skipping to another one in the middle of the video). It's been 49 minutes of my life, but it feels like this video was done in a flash because of your engagement, organization, genuineness, and passion for teaching and life. My time is never wasted watching your vlogs because you remind me that teaching is all about showing up and giving your all for the kids (which is something all of us need reminding of from time to time). It's infectious and energizes all of us. We need more people in the world like you. Thanks for being one of my best discoveries on RU-vid this year!

My oldest son (now a 4th grader) had a first year, first grade teacher! Her class was amazing. I could tell she was VERY clean and organized. She had the cutest airport theme, I had EVER seen before. My sons table was GATE A! Adorable. Anyway, I’m happy we had her. She will always remember my sons class, since it was her first year. Now it’s her fourth year AND our second son has her. She’s moved onto llamas and cactus. It’s been fun to see her grow and we adore her.

ok Lauren, you just broke my heart! Your voice and your expression after "Meet the Teacher Night." Hon----it's going to be ok! You need to know that you made a difference to those 3 kiddos and families you connected with! Keep your positive warm spirit....God is good! I think it is incredible how much effort you put into meet the teacher, don't be disheartened by the lack of turn out from families. Your kids and your families are going to love you and they are so lucky to have such a passionate first grade teacher! I cant wait to set up my own class in January all inspired by your incredibly rainbow room!

In the lower socioeconomic areas, I've had anywhere from 3 to 16 parents show up to parent night. I ALWAYS prepare one sheet per student of whatever I have. I send them home with students whose parents didn't come. I always offer treats for those who do show and for those who return signed and completed documents by the following week. Finally, I call parents to let them know that I missed them and hope to meet them soon.

I was a first year Kinder teacher last year and none of the parents questioned me being young or anything. All they care about is if their kiddos are taken care of and loved!! At the end of the year, I had parents telling me that they wouldn't have known it was my first year and that I'm the reason they kept their kiddos at my school. Don't doubt yourself --youll do amazing whether it's year 1 or year 15!!! The parents and kiddos will love you!!

I always over prepare for open house even after 13 years. The last couple of years after our secretaries are kiddos are in power school I mail out welcome to first grade post cards and telling them when open house is. This year I met 10 out of sixteen parents. Your kids will love ya.

Don’t be worried about your age or years teaching!! As a 2nd year K teacher.. just embrace it! You are young-yes-which means you are ready to bring in new ideas to education, are not a burnt out teacher, and so excited to get started! As for your age, as long as you are professional they will look past your age! Also, every parent I talked to about what they wanted in a teacher was for their child to be loved and feel safe. Nothing about experience teaching!! You got this!

Moving the classroom layout last minute like that is stressful, but that's great you had help and it looks great! The new layout gives you a good view of the classroom door while with small groups. I always like being able to see the door just in case of visitors or for safety.

You deserve your videos to be monetized. You are a breath of fresh air, your attitude is contagious, and the fact that you are transparent about the monetization and offered to take it off is so respected and says so much about your values and morals. Hey Lauren, I just binge watched all your classroom setup videos and vlogs. You are so cute! I hope your first week of school went well! I've been a teacher for 10 years, 8 of those have been in kindergarten, dual language. I recently moved out out-of-state so I've been taking a break from job searching/teaching. Anyway, loved your videos, love your classroom. You will be great and your kiddos will love you. There are so many ups and downs in our profession but at the end all the work we put into in is worth it if we make a difference in a child's life, not just an academis difference but also emotional. Have an awesome year and we are always here whenever you need us. Lots of love!

I am using that Guided Reading book for my SPED Literacy class. It is the best ever!!! It is so useful to read and very user-friendly! I am a sophomore in Special Ed and I love love love your channel!

Your doing amazing! Keep going and don't let a bad parent turn out get you down. Sadly parents don't think about the amount of work a teacher puts into their child's school experience. But...the kids will notice and will remember their year in first grade with you as their amazing teacher. It's gonna be a great year!

I love Jan Richardson’s guided reading books. That is what I use with my kindergarten students. I got to see her at a conference once as well and if you ever get a chance to see her in person she was amazing!

The best of luck to you next week on the first week of school! This is the first year I haven't gone back as I resigned at the end of this past year and have "semi-retired" I also teach VIP part time. It was fun watching your journey and remembering all the excitement and nerves from all those years ago!

I am in my 8th year of teaching, but first year in 1st grade. I also purchased the guided reading book by Jan Richardson, but THE BEST guided reading tool I have found has also been the Hello Literacy Guided Reading PD videos on Facebook. If you search her, she has a whole series and she takes you through every step of the process and it made visualizing/understanding the Jan Richardson book sooooo much easier. Look into that, and also see if your district will allow you to use those for PD credit too! Best of luck on your first year!

Having taught in many different socio-economic areas, I can tell you that parent involvement varies greatly for many legitimate reasons. I've really only taught in three high socioeconomic areas and in those areas only two had more parent involvement.

Hi, You have done an amazing job setting up your classroom. I have enjoyed watching every vlog. It is hard to have worked and planned for parents and only a few show up. I have had that experience as well. They will be seeing your pretty room on the first day. Congratulations on getting air conditioning! You would find it really warm with 17 people in the room. What is happening on 9-16-19? You have that date on your math wall and I am curious! 😁 If someone didn't know you had made those doors a whiteboard they would think the closet came that way. A lot of parents like younger teachers because your fresh and excited as for some of the older teachers not all but some are kind of burnt out at least my kids experience with school had been so far

Consider yourself blessed to have 16 students in your class. When it comes to first graders, something called magic time happens around February and that is when students begin to bring eveything together and their reading abilities awaken. I wish that your principal had let you know where your computers should have gone. Best of luck to you in your first week with your students. Just remember that eveyr day is a new day and it takes three years to get used to the teaching profession.
