Hello to you, I had a busy week at University and thought I would bring you along. Writing an essay and doing an internship at the library... Hope you are having a marvelous time, Luise
Hello!!! ❤ I can't believe there's another person studying comp.lit in Vienna on RU-vid. How amazing! I'd love to meet you. Love your aesthetic. On top op all of that, I'm actually learning Norwegian at the moment.
I recently visited Vienna and I loved it so much, one of my favorite cities I have ever been to. I’m from the United States, but I would live in such a beautiful country as Austria is. Nice channel!
Im also working as a library assistant at my uni library as well as volunteering as a stock assistant with a public library (based in UK) and i love how stimulating and enriching but also therapeutic the role of a librarian can be. That porridge you made looked amazingg as well! i love how much you can experiment with porridge, its a staple in so many diverging cultures for good reason haha. Thanks to the youtube algorithm for helping me stumble on ur channel , greeting from England ;)
Thank you, what a lovely comment! Yes, it does have something very soothing but it‘s not boring ✨ my exact thoughts, porridge can go in so many directions, I also like savory versions!
deeply obsessed with your channel !! i’m planning a trip to europe for the fall and i am going to go to vienna for the first time and i’m using your channel as inspiration on places to go and to get excited for my trip !!!!
That is so sad, in Austria it is similar but I try to use my dialect either way, maybe people will get used to it more and a new connotation emerges after some time. Thank you for your comment!
Thank you for your channel, I'm enjoying your content and videos. I'm sure you're very busy with your studies, work internship, so I appreciate you taking the time to do RU-vid. I'm in the US, and we have several different accents/dialects here. You speak English better than me. Thanks.
Hello! I am so happy that I’ve found your channel. My rec for citation is using a software, can be EndNote or Zotero. Ask your Uni, perhaps they pay any of those. You can use an extension for word, it helps you to cite in different styles and automatic generates the Reference list 😊
Thank you! I have tried Zotero but haven‘t had the time to get used to it but people keep telling me how helpful it is, maybe I need to give it a second go 😁
hello, your channel and you are soo lovely!! I would like to see more about your university. About the question you ask, I live in Turkey and we also have so many dialectic differences around the country!
Thank you so much! Turkish is such a cool language, I hear it often since there is a big Turkish population in Austria, but I don‘t understand it unfortunately. All the best!
I felt so lost too back then, take your time and don‘t pressure yourself, I am sure you will find the right thing ✨ I am glad my video came at the right moment and you enjoyed it 🥰
So fun to hear someone speak about dialects from the "outside". My impression here in Norway is that dialects carry the same historical stereotypes of being less educated, less worldly and travelled, but that these have become sort of weaker due to dialects being very prominent orally in the news, with politicians, with entertainment and so on, but of course not in the written language (aside from nynorsk). Fewer young people have a very prominant dialect, especially those who move to Oslo to study tend to "clean it out" of their speach, but I also know some people my own age who are very proud of it and continue to use it (they usually have family and parents with the same ideals)
Thank you for your comment that is really interesting ✨ I would say there are always stereotypes with languages but sometimes more or less intense and from everything I have read and heard there is quite a difference in how the dialects are perceived as a whole when you compare it to Austria. But I can only speak from the research I did and what professors have told me, I have never lived in Norway and experienced it myself. Maybe one day 😁 All the best!
I studied comparative literature in Vienna years ago! So fun to look back. I was an exhange student from Sweden. I can understand Norwegian but not outside Oslo, the dialects can be very hard to understand. Some Swedes probably can understand. We have a lot of different dialects in Sweden too and it can be hard for some people to understand Skånska, which is the dialect in the south of Sweden, I don't have a problem but some have :)
How nice! Did you enjoy it? ✨ Yes, the dialects in Norway can be so hard, for me as a foreigner it can get very frustrating when I feel like I technically did learn the language but outside of Oslo I don‘t understand much 😄 but with practice it‘s fine, unfortunately I haven‘t had the opportunity to stay in Norway long enough. Swedish is also so lovely, it was a tough choice for me to choose between Norwegian and Swedish 😁
I'm from Italy and here dialects are regarded as proper languages. Being form the north west, if I hear someone from the south speak one of their dialects I understand pretty much nothing
I'm Spanish and we Spaniards also have a huge variety of languages. In my region, in Valencia, we can speak Valencian but of course also Spanish as in all the country. But you can go to Galicia and they speak Galician which is close to portuguese and then in the Basque country which is another region they speak euskera which is a language that anyone knows it's origin, also in Catalonia they speak catalan which is similar to Valencian. And of course we have different accents when we speak Spanish , as in Catalonia, Canary islands or Andalusia. Loved the video! And I've also loved to read all the comments, this comment section is pretty international. Have you been to Spain btw? Best wishes from Spain!!
That‘s really interesting! I have only been to Barcelona once but really loved it and hope to see other places as well in the future. Do you have a favourite region?
Hi!! I love your videos they're so cozy and elegant :) would you recommend the Scandinavian studies BA at Wien uni? I've been thinking about it cause I've always wanted to learn Scandinavian languages but it seems like it might be more about linguistics rather than literature? I'm currently doing a BA in English and prefer literature studies over linguistics. I don't particularly care about dialects etc but I'd love to learn more about Scandinavian lit.
Thank you :) I can recommend it but the linguistic parts are hard and definitely not why I started it in the first place and there is no way around it^^ I am a literature girl as well! There is also a big part with old norse, where you learn about the viking age and a lot of interesting history context but you also have to translate old nordic texts which was a big challenge for me. I would say the studies are divided into three parts: linguistics, old norse and literature and they are equally important. The most wonderful thing about the department is the community, I made some live long friendships there, there are so many events like handcraft meet ups, a theater group, a newspaper, language breakfasts where you can practice your scandinavian language (and you really have the opportunity to get fluent), lots of feasts for any occasion and it feels like a little family but obviously you can‘t only study for the community and also have to enjoy the subject. Maybe check out the course offers and topics on u:find so you get a picture of what you would get yourself into ✨
@luise_marianne I did look into the course topics and some look really interesting while others don't but oh well :) Thanks for replying, this actually sounds really nice, especially about the community! Practicing Scandinavian languages with other students certainly sounds like fun. Old norse and history do seem like interesting topics so maybe in light of this linguistics isn't so bad... I'm going to keep thinking about it but overall this definitely made it sound quite fascinating!
Thank you! It‘s funny because I simply use my iphone SE (which has it’s limits but it works for now) and a small microphone the Rode SmartLav which I boight second hand. My editing program is microsoft cut, I just had it on my computer but I can‘t recommend it I just haven‘t had the time to get used to a new one. 🥰
Linguistics is always dry, don't worry. Just write things you can prove / with a ton of references, and linguists will be happy as a cucumber (yes, I'm a linguist XD). I assure you that scholars almost tend to look more to references than the paper itself; they're curious to see if there's some text that you have read and they haven't.
If you don't mind my asking how are you doing two bachelors (comp.lit. and Scandinavian st.) in conjunction with a masters? That seems extraordinary, unless I've misunderstood. I'm a first year doing a double major of lit and Greek in New Zealand. Your videos are so lovely to watch, you have created a very permeable little world here.
@@kydnmthws Sure, I might not have explained it properly. I finished my bachelor in comp. lit. otherwise I wouldn‘t be able to do a master. And with the skandi bachelor I started a lot later therefore it is still running :) thank you! All the best to New Zealand ✨
Sry, but I almost get PTSD just from looking at a few scenes. Gosh, for me, being a student at that University was horrible. Absolutely no money for food or accommodations. Spending hours upon hours on the train or at the library or at work while studying mostly useless things... I wish you all the best though. You seem to have a much nicer time there and I'm glad that's the case.
I am sorry to hear that your experience was so negative. I haven‘t always had a good time at Uni either especially when I did my exchange semester in Scotland but I am really glad that things have shifted now for me. All the best!
Absolutely not, even if I am close to a deadline I wouldn‘t go there. It‘s part of the challenge to write it myself and be proud when I accomplish it ✨
