Love his engaged responses when you're talking about adverbs and what they do! I have always found grammar and the way language works to be SO cool and fascinating, but not all students quite see the magic of it all. It's fun when they do get those glimpses of how cool it is! :)
He is pretty fun to have conversations with ... first born :) Sometimes he isn't as engaged but I love it when he is able to connect the fact that authors pick certain words and ways of writing for specific reasons!

This was SUCH a helpful video. We are starting LA 3 this year and I absolutely love how you take the stress out of all the different steps, go through it with them, and work through it so it doesn't feel overwhelming. I am going to make some adjustments this year and not be afraid to be more involved. Thank you for taking the time to make this video I am sure this took a lot of work.
Thank you! I ordered the LA for my kids but I couldn’t find a good RU-vid video on it! Another thing I would be interested in is how you transition to level D. I started my boys in HBL A and Science A but one is in LA2 and the other is LA1.
I'm not sure exactly how it lines out for your boys, but it is good to know that the language arts in level 4 is pretty much the same as Level D. So, as long as both boys have made it through Level 3 LA, they will be ready for Level D ... does that make sense?
We did Sonlight last year for kindergarten. I loved the science and most of the book choices but looking back I find their grammar and phonics lacking. We're doing something different for first grade but I can see us going back to Sonlight when my girls' are more independent readers or in high school.
I know it can work for some families ... but we also supplement for grammar (Logic of English) and phonics (Abeka). I agree, I feel like I might come back for the full Sonlight LA in some of the later levels!
I'd say on copywork days 5-10 minutes and then on the creative expression days more like 15ish minutes. If you were to add the other workbooks ... maybe another 20-25 minutes, it probably depends on how well your child handles and stays focused on workbooks.
Are the diamond notes something you would need to start at square one with? Or could a third grader who hasn’t used the program before jump into grade 3?
