Welcome to a busy Friday at The Overstock Toy Shop! It's the start of the weekend, and we are bustling with activity even before opening hours. In this video, I unlock the doors early and am greeted by eager customers ready to shop.
We begin with a quick introduction and a fast recap of last night’s eBay orders. Watch as we box up a few orders, then dive into our latest overstock toy buy - an Amazon overstock load arriving in a few weeks.
Join me as we tackle the chaotic back storage room, sorting through the mess to find summer toys that need to go out on the shelves. It’s a hectic day with lots of customers and a never-ending to-do list. Running this toy store is definitely starting to feel like a full-time job!
Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes looks at the daily operations of The Overstock Toy Shop. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more toy store adventures!

With so many stuffed animals maybe you could do buy one, get one 50% off to move some inventory. It would encourage customers to buy more than 1 per visit.

We try to do fifty percent off sales on stuffed animals.. I think one of the big issue with some of these... They are seasonal. Like Easter and Christmas.

One tip a lot of successful eBay sellers give is to have a listing bank. (I only have 30 sales so far and this has helped me tremendously over the last 10 of them). Maybe to make it less taxing, devote one day to the listings each week and then do a designated start time on each and spread them throughout the rest of the week so you can just focus on fulfillment from there and get some attention back to the physical store. It also helps you with the eBay algorithm by showing it you're consistently listing new stuff, so you'll get boosted further up people's feeds. All of this is of course if it fits the model of how you keep inventory of them when they sell out of the store. Those gym bags/duffle bags/etc might be good things to put up online. They're soft goods, so they don't need as much protective packaging. And they're big items compared to your store's space, so shipping them off would help your sales floor a lot with each sale. You also don't have to worry about hidden flaws in them that you can't see through a closed box. The only trick would be how you've been doing free shipping. Size and weight on those is obviously going to inflate that side of the cost. The suggestion another view left of something local like Facebook Marketplace seems a good solution. The frustration boiling over isn't surprising. Just based on the slowdown of videos and eBay listings you've been putting out it's apparent you're getting burnout since you started the new position at the railroad. Eyes on the prize though, and keep pushing forward. Be mindful of your limits and don't hurt yourself. The day is coming where you quit the railroad and go fully into this, it's just a matter of how much longer until then. It's obvious you have a passion for the store and you've already reached a point of success where it's difficult for you to handle on top of the other job. When that day comes where you can make the leap, imagine how your business will explode and how much fun you'll be having. That's where your head needs to be when you hit the difficult patches along the way to it.

I think we are over 350 items sold since we started on eBay. It's definitely a daily deal. We like to ship as soon as we get it in. I've been with the railroad for 11 years so it's not really a new position 🤣 the slow down probably does have some to do with having to sink more time into eBay and more time into the store. Sometimes filming and editing slows me down and with the way demand has been to keep the store turning over inventory it's just not feasible. And work at the railroad picks up as the weather warms up. More late days and what not. A big decision is coming. It's going to boil down to either the store or the railroad. Even if I hired someone I don't think it would work. The store has outgrown the whole "part time" scenario.

You were forced to change positions at the railroad a few weeks back though right? Thought the new job you were doing for them might be loading you down more. Interesting that it gets busier there with better weather. Less weather-related hazards/obstacles once snow and the like are out of the way?
@GuywithaToyStore

I ended up back at my same position after taking all my vacation. So it kind of worked out 🤣 A little bit more inspecting when it gets warmer. After the temperature reaches a certain point, I am required to inspect my territory. More production work in better weather as well. The next few weeks I'm going to have to decide what I'm doing tho.

Ah, that's good you didn't get upended there at least. My grandad walked the trains to inspect them for Norfolk Southern. Ended up wrecking his knees and retiring on disability (mind you, he was a hefty fellow, so he was disposed to that damage to begin with).

I mean with some of the stuff like bags and some of the water bottles maybe you could donate them to local school or camp? I know you want to return on investment but sometimes just the good thing to do and you could get your name out there doing good things. Otherwise maybe get the bags and suitcases out now because they might sell to people going on vacations. Maybe a bundle deal bag and a bottle for x? Beginning of summer sale? Bags, Floaties, water bottles? With the loads I think you are always going to get sporting goods since I think it must be in the same dept as toys so that is why you get them. Just some ramblings on a Sunday but keep up the videos and good luck selling this weekend
@GuywithaToyStore
@GuywithaToyStore Месяц назад
Some good ideas. I think most of the stuff bagged up are sellers, just slow sellers. We were thinking we will donate some, find some resellers , list some.. hopefully we can find a good combo. It would be nice to recoup a little on some of that stuff. 😅
@westey300
@westey300 Месяц назад
@@GuywithaToyStore Finding some resellers for those things is a great idea. Maybe there is some local flea market sellers that would be interested in that sort of merchandise?
@Kuroketsu
@Kuroketsu Месяц назад
Agreed, even if just to get them out of your space, you could possibly unload them for cost to someone who specializes in that type of merch. Shoot, maybe you get lucky and find someone who has toys they don't know what to do with and benefit that way too.

I'm going to wish you luck on the Amazon load, us store owners normally stay away from Amazon mainly because it's normally used inventory. We tried it once with one of our store locations we received used toilet seats moldy Tools & Toys, lots of small bulk items, it was bad... Hopefully you got a better deal, we didn't receive a manifest on ours so hopefully you did

For stuff like that suitcase and other things like that that doesn’t really fit the toy store… have you considered posting them on Facebook marketplace? I feel like that would help selling something like that
