So kind of you to help Ukrainian families.I am from Ukraine as well and we have just moved to Portugal. I can say that every little act of kindness from locals is like a hug and a statement that everything is going to be ok.

Lots of our Ukrainian family is staying here in the US as well currently. My parents immigrated at 30 with 6 kids in tow. I cannot imagine moving with my one child to a foreign country to start over! Edit: The refugees singing in Russian at the end was touching. ❤ Praising the Lord for his mercy after they've just escaped war. Wow.

I go to Costco all the time and it’s only 3 of us! I love their produce, milk, eggs, PB, cheeses, paper goods/diapers, fish, chicken, cheap clothes and shoes, dry goods like seeds and nuts, condiments, etc etc etc 😁

Four of us and we got every 2-3 months. We buy our meat and break it down to smaller portions to be frozen, paper goods, cereal, tuna, bottled water for the church music team, the large bag of tortilla chips, trash bags, laundry detergent, you name it!

Love, love that you are canning. I grew up canning with my mom and dad and have been canning for my family for over 40 years. There is nothing better! I want to share a tip… add the jars to a warm water canner, then bring it to a boil, reduce the heat but keep a boil and then start the timing at the boiling point. If your jars have cooled off- cooler that the canner water- the bottoms of the jars will break off and you lose all of your hard work in the water. I love canning!!!!

Just a few things…if someone has a Costco membership just use theirs for now and only get the things you like. I agree with you Meghan that “family times and outings” are my best and favorite things to do. Especially now that my kids are grown. We are still making memories. I love when you show around Lancaster. It’s one of my husband and I’s favorite place to go. Blessings!!

I’m a single person and I love Costco! I shop there more than I should for sure. They have great clothes, they have great priced foods for bulk stuff. I definitely have figured out the things I can’t buy there because yes, I do get sick of them by the time I’m finished.

I'm one of those people who cook without recipes much of the time. It came from not having much money and learning to just use whatever I had in the cupboard. I do sometimes end up wishing that I had measured the amounts so I could make it taste the exact same way again but I do think it is fun to experiment. When I do cook without a recipe it always reminds me of the story about Stone Soup.

A couple of cautions when canning: when removing the jars, do not tilt them. A you tube I watch said they learned that the hard way. Also, when you take the jars out of the canner, place a tea towel or tablecloth down to set the hats on or they could break as the counter could be cold and jars are hot. As I'm watching this my pickled hot pepper jars are sealing. Love that sounds.

We have had a Costco membership since we were married. It just last longer and less shopping. Never got tired of yet. I shopped at other places and I end up spending way more for less. You can make things and freeze for later. Carrots celery ect. It a great place to get things when having a crowd. We also buy there appliances and furniture. Best place to buy appliances. Always got melons at martins, and Lowell. They switch out there things so often.

I had the biggest smile while you were canning. I thought it was a huge chore the first time I tried it. a little practice and its so easy now. I only have a water canner. A pressure cooker makes me nervous. I make pepper Jelly, and jams. This year made blueberry and plum. So glad you tried it. You did a great job.. I am 72 years old; and feel its one of those homemaking tasks that will be a dying art if the younger people don't learn. Thanks for sharing your staycation.

I've been canning my whole life- learned from my mother. My favorite memory was when each jar lid would 'pop',, my mother would exclaim "Praise the Lord!" or "Hallelujah!" or "Thank You, Jesus!" I have always done the same, especially when you experience jars that don't seal, it's a joy when each jar DOES seal, lol!

I had never canned anything but my husband’s mom did so it was important to him, especially since she passed away 16 years ago. I was nervous, but we worked together and learned as we went - we now keep jars of applesauce, Apple Butter, strawberry jam and apricot jam. I have also made and canned Spiced Plum sauce and Strawberry-Apricot jam, but I have yet to try anything savory / vegetable. I have lots of things I want to try and hope to get to them soon! A few fun facts for our family: my mother-in-law was born and raised in Ephrata in Lancaster County (her parents owned an antique store there, and her sister still lives in the big white house on the main street! 🙂). And my mother-in-law always made her applesauce from Gravenstein apples, which is a bit of a sour-sweet apple which makes delicious sauce, so that’s what we use. We first canned Gravenstein Apple Sauce when our oldest was a baby (he turns 13 next year!) and that apple sauce has been the first solid food for each of our four children😃 It feels so special to have that little connection to their sweet grandmother in Heaven whom they never got to meet here on earth. 💕

We have a Costco membership for just my husband and I (and baby I guess). I would say maybe we are fairly repetitive eaters but we find it worth it! We have a chest freezer too so we don’t eat everything right away. We have found they have good prices kitchen appliances, diapers, vacuums, golf balls, clothes, toiletries, contact lenses you name it! But what has made the membership worth it for us is the car insurance is great coverage and so much less than others and we always get the best price on rental cars.

Boil your jelly a bit longer, like another 30 seconds. Or boil it just a tad harder during the one minute. That should help it be a bit firmer. Just a tip for next spring when fresh strawberries come in, make the strawberry freezer jam if you never have. It's delicious!!

It’s just my husband and me and we benefit from a Costco membership. I go maybe 5-6 times a year and I’ve calculated the savings is worth the cost of the membership. Primarily buy TP, paper towels, dish soap, laundry and dishwasher detergent, meat (I vacuum seal in portions and freeze), garlic, oils, seasonings like red pepper flakes, black pepper, etc. Some produce is reasonably sized, like raspberries, individual pineapples. I also use their brand of shampoo and conditioner and buy the big bottle of neutrogena rainbath. I don’t know, I think for a family of 5 it can definitely be worth it, but everyone is different and shops differently.
