Megan, one of the best way to test bread to see if it is finished baking is to use an instant read thermometer. Most breads are good at 190 to 200 degrees. No guessing on my part.
My husband is such an encouragement to me... I homeschool 3 and we do a lot of ministry stuff. I love a clean organized house and made from scratch foods. And a garden, and a nicely landscaped backyard and an organized garage...I also love to host and have groups over from church. Sooooo reality is - I can't be good at everything and not everything has to be perfectly organized. NY husband always says to me " be gracious to yourself in the same way that you are gracious to the boys!" Such a good reminder! Grace upon grace!❤
Hi Megan. I know I'm very late to the party, so don't know if you'll even see this, but when I make kebabs I put the meat on one, the peppers on another, the onions on another etc... I find they cook at different rates so if I put them all together the onions may be still crunchy when the meat is done and the tomatoes might be mush. If done separately you can get each thing just the way you like it. I put zucchini on sometimes or cubes of sweet potato. I love your channel!
I took up your recommendation for Ritual when I got pregnant.... They are good! Just think could be helpful for you to mention you can change the scent in future videos! I was pushing my way through the mint ones even though mint made me feel sick in pregnancy... Only to discover about 7 months in you can change the smell to orange!!! 😂 Love your videos. Little bit of joy in my day from a fellow Christian. Keep up the good work. ❤️
Closer to where I live-in Grand Rivers KY-is a restaurant called Pattis 1880’s settlement. They are known for their flower pot bread & strawberry butter they serve as an appetizer with every meal. Delicious! You should definitely stop by there if you happen to be passing through. I say yours turned out very well for 1st try. Great video 💗
I ❤ to watch your experiment baking/cooking. I also ❤❤ that you include the some of the less successful attempts. A new recipe isn’t complete until I have doubted the process. But it is nice to know that cooks I admire have the same thoughts. Your Chicken Pot Pie recipe is the one I use now for my soup - so thank you for that!
I have a a Kitchenaid stand mixer too,bit I didn't know there was a wheat grinder attachment that I could get for it. That's great! I would love to grind my own flour sometimes, as well as start baking homemade bread. The attachment will save me from buying another kitchen gadget that my daughters tell me I don't need!😄..I love how you aren't afraid to try new things,Megan,it's very encouraging.😊💖
I use raw honey and milk in my coffee all the time …! Recently I visited a coffee shop and they had a coffee mixed with milk/honey and it was called “Winnie the Pooh”. 🍯 😊
So funny story. I have a brand new grain mill and a giant bag of wheat berries in the pantry and they’ve been there for over 6 months 🤦🏻♀️ you’ve given me inspiration to bust it out and actually use it! Did you know wheat berries are shelf stable for 50 years!!? Amazing
I have several attachments for my kitchen aid that I love. One was the strainer to replace my hand-cranked Victorio strainer. It is great for making tomato juice. I also have the grinder because I wanted to make a sandwich spread like my grandmother used to make by grinding smoked sausage and boiled eggs. I recently got the grater attachment when my food processor quit working. I haven't used it yet.
Recommendation for bread bakers. If you don't want to cut into your bread to see if it's done, get a thermometer and once you get an interior temp of 190°, your bread is done. I use my digital thermometer and go up through the bottom, making sure to go in all the way to the center. Works every time.
I went to a local coffee shop and told the barista to make me something of his own creations. He made me a latte that had hints of lavender and strawberry flavors/extracts and it was amazing!! I would have never put those flavors together with coffee but it was 💯
I used to work in a small local coffee shop, and we had a “honey bear latte” that the owner and his wife created. It’s butter pecan, French vanilla and real honey! SO GOOD! One pump of each flavor and 1 TBSPN honey for a 12 oz latte!😄
I’m surprised you don’t end up using your beef roasts. I think pot roast is the easiest thing to make on Sunday for lunch. I sear the roast then stick it in the oven for one hour at 400*, then turn it down to 325-350*, put the carrots and maybe potatoes in the pot and leave for church. When we get home, it’s all done. We do have a bit of a drive to church and our service is an hour and a half, so it bakes longer, bu tits so easy and yummy!
I think I need a KitchenAid grain mill now! Thanks for sharing! I've always been told that the flour measurements for bread are never precise in a recipe. A lot depends on the humidity and various other factors. You just start with the amount and add more as needed to get to the texture you are looking for.
That Miller has the most beautiful eyes…love your coffee explorations…I think the bread in smaller pots would look extra cute especially for a spring brunch🥰
I actually yelled out “no!” when you mentioned washing the grinder attachment 😂 I own one and you’re definitely only supposed to wipe it up. Enjoyed the video, I have recently embarked on this wheat bread journey too!
p.s. So fun to see you parent Miller. Looks like he is ready to take over cleaning the floors! It brought back memories to see you walking him at your mom's. Walking that slowly was one of the more painful parts of being out with the kids when I was conscious of needing to lose weight and they walked minus five miles an hour, stopping to look at every pebble and blade of grass....and had no interest in being in a carriage. Bet your mom loved seeing her baby on the swing with her baby! So special.
Flower pot bread is so nostalgic to me! When I was a kid, my parents would take me to Patti's Place, a restaurant in Grand Rivers, Ky. The flower pot bread there was amazing! I;m going to have to make some for my kids. Thanks for the recipe!
You can have my kitchenaid grinder for free! You have to grind it three times to get it fine enough. I invested in an actual grain mill (I bake bread daily) and it’s so nice and takes a fraction of the time!
Hi Megan, my auntie use to bake bread in pots and they were much smaller than yours and use to rise out of the pots if that’s any help. I’m certainly going to try your raspberry butter and it got me thinking of other fruits I could use (be lovely with scones). I make garlic butter but never thought to do sweet ones. I always by local honey from a farm shop it tastes so much better. I’m not a fan of sweet coffee but I do like iced coffee. I really enjoyed today thanks I love spending time with you over a coffee. Just an Idea could you leave your sister a basket for things she can’t find a home for so you can quickly put them in right places when you got aa mo xx
I had never heard of baking bread in terra cotta pots, what a cute idea! A tip on knowing how long to bake your bread is that it is usually just right (at least for my preference) when it has an internal temp of around 200 degrees. 😊
Oh my Miller is so cute running around behind you in the kitchen. It's the cutest thing. 😍🥰. I've never heard of baking bread in terracotta pots, Wow.👍
Megan, I so look forward to seeing new videos on Thursdays. It's great that you are confident enough to record new recipes and projects. You must know that we just enjoy seeing how everything works out. It makes it so much more genuine and honest, which is part of your appeal. It looks like Miller is teething. The two of you cleaning the kitchen floor is precious, especially when Miller moves your hand away.
Great video Megan! I just saw a cool Kitchen Aid attachment that makes shaved ice. It looked so fun and refreshing! You sure had a fun day with Miller and in your kitchen. I love the idea of raspberry butter! I love it when you share recipe ideas. How fun that you get to visit your family farm. Always love your videos!!!!
As someone who bakes almost daily haha, I have always found just putting my dough in the oven with the light on creates a nice warm environment for the rise as well! My husband likes our house pretty cold so had to get creative 😂
@@senseijoyner you can turn the oven on for a few minutes (5 ish) so it just begins to get warm. Then turn it off and open the door and put dough in. If it feels too warm leave door cracked.
Hey Megan! Love your Vlogs every Thursday! ...so I'm a pretty regular bread baker and have baked 30 loaves at a time on many occasions. One thing that is vital for good bread is kneading it; this will cause gluten to form in your dough...its basically a must to knead it for no less then 10 minutes in the mixer or with your hands..your choice...it gives it the stretch (aka chance to form gluten or protein) it needs to get a good rise...to check the gluten content take a small piece of dough and gently pull it part; when you can form a somewhat transparent "window" then you have an adequate amount of gluten development to form a beautiful loaf of bread...I can't quite tell you all the science behind it. But i hope the little I have shared will help..Wishing you many more happy baking days!😊
Hello Megan my late mum used to bake her potato bread in the terricota pots we called it mushroom bread :) thankyou for the great memories xxx Gods blessings xx
One tip about Ritual. The mint flavor was way tooooo much for me, they said to take out that little thing in the bottle that keeps them fresher. It takes some of the mint intensity.
A tip I've learned to letting things rise: put them in your oven with the light on! That's it! Usually works for me! 😅 Love your videos Megan! Watching them gives me some motivation and encouragement to find the little joys in mothering and homemaking. ❤😊
I've been experimenting with fresh ground flour. It's important to autolyse, which is mixing the flour and water for letting set for 20 to 30 min. Then adding the other ingredients. I do sourdough, so I mix the starter in right away. I don't know when you would add yeast so you could experiment with that.
I read a comment on another channel that she mixes the dough up and then lets it sit for 20 minutes so the flour can hydrate , before she does the kneading step.
I've been considering the mill attachment for my kitchen aid, I'm not ready to commit to a grain mill I don’t have space for, nor do I know if I'll follow through enough to make the expense worthwhile. I know the attachment won't grind grains as fast as a traditional mill but it for a loaf or 2 a week it looks like it would work. TFS.
I have a TON of baking to do tomorrow for my toddler with multiple food allergies. I got lazy and my freezer supply of his safe foods are needing replenished. SO much baking needs done ASAP, but this is going to help motivate me 😁 thanks for the videos. I look forward to them every week. A rainy day, baking, and A Kitchen Day Megan video. 😊 It actually sounds pretty appealing.
Happy to have a new video to watch, I was super stressed yesterday which bled into today and I'm finding comfort, almost like seeing a friend in your video. Thanks for taking the time. I also love the outfit!
Awesome idea for the bread baking!! If the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the top it generally means it's done. Also, different name brands of flour need slightly different equivalents. 😊
I have a delicious stroganoff recipe for my cube beef. Perfect over egg noodles! 2 lb cube beef, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 packet dry onion soup mix, 1/2 carton mushrooms, 1/2 chopped onion, 1/2 C water. Throw all in crockpot 6-8 hours or 1.5 hours in pressure cooker, quick release. Delicious!
I've seen bread baked in the terracotta pots before - yours look amazing and Iove the crunchy crust 😃 You reminded me that I love shish-kabobs so I'm going to have to make some of those soon! Have a great weekend Megan 🥰
Finally see you wearing an apron! Love your channel Megan. I don't watch as much as I used to but love that you are still moving along with sharing your life!
I love these vlogs of you trying new things. And you do not disappoint us. You have to try something first before you know if you like it. I appreciate you and your vlogs. Sending lots of love, hugs and prayers to you and your beautiful family. Have a blessed evening. 🙏❤️
I love that you take us along for your cooking adventures! Always so much fun! Brought back memories of having bread baked in mini terra cotta pots at Longwood Garden’s restaurant with my dad many, many years ago. As others have commented, freshly milled flour absorbs water differently than store bought flour. You generally have to reduce the amount of liquids used and it can also help to do a slow rise (part on the counter and part in the fridge to extend the time the flour has to absorb the liquid). Look forward to seeing you use your new mill in an upcoming video! Maybe try a bread recipe that specifically calls for freshly milled flour.
For your spring coffee syrup idea, you're gonna think I'm crazy... Lavender latte syrup! I do NOT reccomend drinking hot, lol. Definitely iced only. It's the weirdest thing you'll probably ever put in your mouth, but somehow...strangely good and refreshing. My sister brought it over and I was terrified to try it
What an interesting video! The flower pot bread looks amazing! I had a bread making book that had flower pot bread in it. I've not tried it yet but I feel inspired now. Steam continues to cook the bread inside the crust if it's left to cool. Knocking on the bottom to test for a hollow sound is a good way to check if it's done without having to cut it. Thanks for a great video!😊
Thank you Megan for all you do. You are so sweet and just subscribed recently. I’m in the process of watching the older videos as well. Blessings to you and your family.
@@MeganFoxUnlocked I am sure glad that you held on to it!! The s'mores fudge you shared a couple of years ago is another favorite around here! My oldest daughter makes it now more that I do! Lol.
That bread looked and sounded delicious! Love my Kitchen Aid. I have the dough attachment. Beautiful day at the farm. Looks like the big kids had fun as well. Take care and God bless y’all! 😀❤️
Love to see cooking ideas. Have just tried to make my own bread in the last couple of years, so great to see ideas and options. Love the raspberry butter idea!
Watching during nap time too! Love your videos I always look forward to them and you’re such an Inspiration! I like the size of your rectangular Tupperware containers. Can you link them please?
Megan for the first time making the bread in the pots I think it turned out good !! Once you research it more and maybe talk to someone that has done it you can perfect it!! Dont be hard on yourself because your an amazing cook and homemaker..❤ lv ya sweetie
One thing about bread is it finishes cooking after you take it out of the oven. The steam inside finishes its cooking. Cutting into it fresh out of the oven is going to make it seem like it’s not done. Always cool bread completely before slicing (if you can wait that long🤤)
Very enjoyable. It was fun. Suggestion for the beef cubes: beef stroganoff, gravy and beef on potatoes, yes anyway you can slow cook it. I do vegetable beef soup. I think the bread looks awesome.
@@MeganFoxUnlocked lol I can totally understand thinking that but it’s actually just a light floral taste! It’s really good as a lavender mint lemonade too💜
The favorite drink here, locally, is a "muddy pond mocha" which is actually named after an Amish community not far from here (East TN). It's molasses (from muddy pond) and brown sugar. Soooo good!!
Great bread effort ! Fun to watch a beginner with flowerpots! Ive taught breadmaking forover 47 yrs..bread needs oven hotter than 350..try 400. The hot heat "kills" the yeast action then cooks the dough. I have enough bread cookbooks to open a bookshop!! Some UK..some USA..some Aussie like me. I like them all. I often do a plain white breadroll &just add a big handful of normal rolled oats...cant see them when baked but adds hidden fibre . Enjoyed your day video
We use the meat grinder attachment for the KA mixer to grind our own meat for the twos us. When we can find a really good sale on meats we buy a small bulk batch and this way we can control the fat also. I have also used it for grinding dried apricots for my Apricot Balls or dates for Date rolls at Christmas time. Those sticky dried fruits are impossible for me to cut up without my grinding attachment. I wanted the pasta roller but we try to stay off a lot of pasta so that really was not needed even tho I sure would like to play with it. If we weren’t in our twilight years I would most definitely be trying the mill attachment. Thanks for the demo❣️
My favorite latte EVER is a honey cinnamon iced latte!! However, I just put straight honey in 😉😉 sure hope you enjoy your coffee syrup and flavors of spring ❤
I like when you experiment on video-if it works COOL if it doesn't well, thats how life is sometimes. None the less it is fun and interesting to watch!
