Replacing the Saturday unboxing videos, www.crimsonguit... Crimson Guitars Weekend Workshops will be more than just unboxing videos. Ben might reveal, demonstrate and review a new tool to do with guitar building or luthiery. These could be from another manufacturer or one of Crimson's own tools. Basically, just another reason for Ben to play around in his workshop.
In this episode of the Weekend Workshop Ben, master luthier at www.crimsonguit... received a package in the post and decided to open it on camera. Inside was a cool full contact bridge from Babicz Guitars in the USA.

He pronounces his name as "Babitz". He was also one of the original main employees at the Newburgh Steinberger factory, and worked closely with Ned. Babicz is one of the go-to repairmen for old Steinbergers, and has written a couple articles on his experiences originally building them, and then repairing them years later (fun fact: turns out even full carbon fiber guitars _will_ move a little over the years, despite what he and Ned thought. Adjusting a CF neck without a truss rod is apparently a very involved process; he also now believes _all_ guitars should have a truss rod in the neck, even if it's made completely of carbon fiber. xD) Anyway, I think there's an article by him over on the HeadlessUSA site, who specialize in repairing and sales of old Steinbergers and headless hardware.

He also worked a lot with Eddie Van Halen and also built Ed’s original 5150 Trans Trem guitar.

Billy Gibbons isn't going to be happy when he finds one of his guitars is missing it's bridge! Or am I trying really hard to miss understand what you said. It made me smile anyway. It looks like a really good bridge.

I thought that was going to be the Babicz Les Paul bridge. Please do a review of that one too Ben, it looks like a beast.

I put one on my Jazz Bass. Changed the sound a bit, but allowed me to get better intonation and easier height adjustment.

Can hardly wait to see and hear the finished product. I just purchased the Billy F. Gibbons model in gold. Should look quite stunning on my goldy! Cheers!

looks like a hybrid between an tele bridge with Floyd Rose saddles. I like the design.

Just my feedback on ONE babicz bridge (a tuneomatic): After two weeks the plating started peeling off, making disgracious bubbles with discoloration all over the upper part of the bridge where my hand seats. So it obviously is linked to my type of sweat, but it's the first time a bridge does that to me.
@onpsxmember
@onpsxmember 8 лет назад
+Laurent Toussaint It shouldn't matter if its a chromated. If that is not the case, its due to poor coating. There are coats that survive for months in salt water. I hate it when black tunomatic hardware wears off. I'm gonna look for a good one in the future

I have had a tele type bridge for a while. Well made, sounds good. Very stable. Maybe not for the traditionalists but there you go. Also not cheap, but gettable for a reasonable price on eBay. I have also had the Tune-o-matic, also very good, and you can adjust the string heights. Got mine for 90 USD on eBay.

IMHO, Jeff Babicz makes the best bridge in the industry. I have 7 of them installed on my "F" style basses ( and just ordered # 8 yesterday ). Make sure to read the instructions and/or watch their videos since there is a bit of a learning curve to the installation and set up. Having used every bridge known to man on my builds I find these superior to all others. I believe you will be thrilled when you get yours installed. Can't wait to see the video of the outcome. Cheers!

@onpsxmember

Crazy Uncle Duke Take a look when you get a chance or through a video. The string don't need ballends to work and they are held only by the way the force is distributed and the shape of the arms attached.

I was very interested in these bridges until someone told me a certain youtuber likes them too and that's when I became skeptical. Hopefully your videos will shed some proper light on them.

Ben, I think you have passed the stage when you need to introduce yourself, your company and the reason for the video, you really can just jump straight in with the subject. The title is plenty introduction. That bridge is an interesting concept, it will be very interesting to see what you do with it.
@ResoBridge

There is a problem with the Babicz single coil Tele bridge. The thick Aluminium plate has low electrical resistance and acts as a shorted turn around the pickup. This is not so much of a problem with the humbucker version which you show in the video, because the shorted turn is outside of both pickup coils and has little effect.

I have a partscaster with a hipshot fixed bridge on it but the saddles are maxed out in height so if anyone knows if this bridge would allow my strings to be a bit higher than the hipshot, that would be great. Cheers!
@CrimsonCustomGuitars
@CrimsonCustomGuitars 3 года назад
I'm not sure if it would but I would suggest taking your hipshot, which is a great bridge, and adding a piece of veneer or metal underneath the bridge to raise it up a bit.. that or route the neck pocket a tad deeper if that is an option.. B

@tyrssen1

Looks like a great design -- but aluminum with a zinc block (and a very skinny one, at that) gives me pause. If it were steel with a steel or brass block, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

@shadowscott9910

I used one on a cheap LP copy I Frankensteined. Bridge was mis-located. It is a very nice bridge with a pretty wide intonation range compared to standard LP bridges.
@daleonov
@daleonov 8 лет назад
Shadowscott So you've used it to fix the intonation issue, I see. Though it's a bit expensive just for that extra range I think...
@shadowscott9910
@shadowscott9910 8 лет назад
+Daniel Leonov It was worse than that. The bridge posts were mislocated, so I plugged amd redrilled them, bought a new neck, and in for a penny in for a pound got the bridge to round out the project. It was a lets work on a guitar I don't care about project, and ever thing i bought could be re-used.

ben I just finished my first build on your site I used one of the babicz bridges and a brass nut with cut inbetween each string to cut down on cross talk and with a rosewood neck, so I just made one around the full contact ideal lol funny how coincidces like that happen (crimsonguitars.com/guild/forum/work-in-progress-or-completed-projects/starting-my-first-guitar/page-3/#p8085)
