Key to any childs development is for parents to be supportive, do not dramatise mistakes and let your child play to learn and enjoy the game.. Slowly build & develop charactor, technique, physical & social skills and game experience. A positive attitude and environment is critical to development of a child / footballer
I agree that Cat 1 academy’s are not always right for some kid’s development at such a young age. I have noticed a few pre academy coaches (U7&U8) don’t run the training session with the same intensity or structure the paid academy’s have! It’s run more like an after school club than a high level development centre

I bet that no one playing CB at grassroots level gets scouted. They concentrate on scoring fast and physically strong boys who can dribble and shoot. It doesn’t seem like any of them actually scout centre backs. The centre backs journeys I have seen have always started as a midfield or striker and then played in defence at an older age.
There’s loads of fast athletic defenders in grassroots football. Shame they don’t put in the same effort into defenders. We lack good defenders and defensive midfielders in this country.
@@craigdolphin2580 Every time I have seen an interview with a professional footballer who plays in defence, they always have the same story. They were scouted playing striker or winger. Then at the academy they were asked to play defence and did well. The scouts do not even look at specialist defenders. Kind of weird, in fact very weird. As I am sure lots of good defenders get missed by their obsession with only scouting dribblers who look fast and score goals.
