As an introvert it KILLS ME having my home be encroached on for extended periods of time. It doesn't matter if it's family or otherwise, I can't help it. It throws my moods off and sends me spiraling into mental tumult and disarray. So I get it lol

I avoid reading slumps by sprinkling in mystery books, but they can be addictive! Other helpful books are the Calvin and Hobbes comics and biographies of people you find interesting. Good luck with April. 😺✌️

Techmo Super Bowl was my favorite game back in the day. My favorite play was probably the flea flicker from Montana to Rice which was pretty much a 100 percent completion every time. Jackson was the primary cheat code and Montana was the secondary cheat code for that game. 💪

Love Back to the Future! It’s a movie the now hubby and I saw when it first came out on a date night and have watched it numerous times since. Keep enjoying those times with the kids. My last baby bird left the nest last week and it seems not long ago we were playing video games and watching movies together. His fav was The Sandlot.

If you havent already I'll be among the 3 other people who exist bugging you to read The Night Land by William Hope Hodgson. Or really the "retold" version of it. Don't feel bad about limited reading time, especially when it comes to construction around the house. I used to read all the time when I worked at a bank. When I switched careers and started working in construction I found a new appreciation for books I thought boring before. For example I thought Moby Dick was boring and dropped it multiple times working at the bank but after working a trade for a while an picking it back up I realize it's a masterpiece like everyone said. Go out and observe the workers, ask if you can help in any way, ask questions. If it's a good construction company they might give you a discount for what we call "material handling". It might give you a bit of a jumpstart in inspiration.

I usually experience reading slumps after finishing a big book. What helps me get back on track is reading something beautiful and short. Beautiful prose, I suppose. For instance, I read The Martian Chronicles or The Illustrated Man I feel good to go. They encourage me to write as well.

makes perfect sense to me to have a reading slump after titans like Shogun and Blackwater.. Add on the unexpected and frustrating home delays, anyone's mood would be meh. Maybe do a Talk About Nothing or a collab with whoever if you think that might give you a little juice to recharge the battery?

I had a huge reading slump in february and march due to having a book hangover (or two), so I can feel your frustration way too much. Also some health problems came along, so just life in general. What I'm trying to say is, what helped me hugely in my slump is picking up Dungeon Crawler Carl. If you like rpg games, and if you just want to relax and read something very light, fun but gruesome stuff, I have to recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl. Just try it. That book singlehandedly got me out of my slump.

Love that you're bringing the book segments back for some reviews. Always a favoeite of mine. I, too, mix up my genres. If i start getting a slump in one, I check out what's going on with in my favorite historical mystery series or modern harder crime stories. I might grab a cozy mystery, an old favorite Georgette Heyer or dip into nonfiction. Hope you come to the end of your slump soon. This too shall pass, Mike.

I knew you were a closet all-genre reader... If I were an avid reader, I would kill to have a reader's slump. 8:30 please do that. The intro to Blackwater was great last week. I caught a premier of you reading A Christmas Carol and you really do well to convey the feeling of the text and how much you loved the book. Maybe one day when you are 80 you can enjoy David Lynch's Dune with your grown up kids instead of Minions.

Reading slumps can be tough. Sometimes nothing clicks. Short story rereads always worked for me. I'm having a great week. I read issue 9 of Titan's Conan The Barbarian color comic. I'm enjoying that so far. I wasn't a fan of their new Savage Sword. But the color comic is good so far. Since I'm back on a Conan kick, I started a reread of my Del Ray Conan books. Read Phoenix On The Sword this week. I also pre ordered Mezco's King Conan figure from my local comic shop. It's out this September. Just in time for Cimmerian September!

I'm in a rut too, only because I keep falling asleep and having to restart the same chapter of Reaper's Gale all week 😂 I couldn't hear any of the work going on at your place, so whatever is filtering out the noise is working well. Maybe an audiobook with noise canceling headphones will bring things as close to back to normal as can be. I use Sony WH-1000XM5 on my folding phone with kindle + audible books to read along with the audio and tune out the world. I did this at the airport and could only hear the narration.

It's been a rough week for me as well. My moms dog Boots crossed the rainbow bridge Sunday evening at the age of 10, so that's kinda put a damper on my mood. I realized that I have finished 17 books on Storygraph...and 11 of them have been fantasy, so I think I need a break from Osten Ard for a bit, so I've been focusing on The Judas Strain this week and started Legends and Lattes (mostly for a lighthearted, fun read to take my mind off things.) Not sure what I'm going to start after I finish those two

My older brothers got in such a bad fight in the 80’s cuz one got mad the other shut off tecmo bowl when he was losing. A lot of redundancy in your content. Why talk about "this week on the channel" when everyone can go and watch all videos this week? Same with "next week plans". Why talk what you're going to do when you will show it next week anyway? Maybe getting to the point without treading water over and over again will be better?
