WEEZER Blue Album & US BOMBS "The World": Things You Didn't Know 

US Bombs we’re apart of an interesting scene in Orange County in the 90s. Tons of great bands like The Stitches, Smogtown, The Humpers, White Kaps, The Grabbers, etc. Bands full of rough people but making incredible music. I’ve seen the Bombs a few times and a few of Duane’s other projects and when he was on it live, it was incredible. But otherwise man it was sad.

i saw Kid Rock on his first tour. they put him between the Specials and Rancid on main stage. Kid got Booed offstage... Warped tour at South Park Meadows in Austin. the first year i think.

i do know from an interview years ago, that the singer of Weezer is a huge fan of 60's garage rock and soul. like Mod music

Pinkerton is their best album imo. but i love weezer. they are what i was talking about (and PRes of the USA), when i mentioned pre-emo nerdcore weeks ago. and bands like Gals Panic, The Impossibles, Missile Command. many are ska or ska adjacent. in the early 90's a lot of bands were in that punk-adjacent alt rock thing.

there used to be a dj in austin that did trad skin ska/reggae and northern soul. on sunday nights at the Black Cat. it was called Soul Sound System. He was an old skinhead who jammed singles all night. and his collection was Fucking epic.

I'm not sure if you knew this, but 100% of the reason the drums stand out on the bombs record, it's because their drummer was none other than Chip Hanna who went on to play drums for One Man Army.

Worst or incoherent music taste? Don't know which one I would go for; however, I do have great music taste, not to brag. I'm a rock n roll nerd. I'm a nerd for rock music. Why? Just because I like it. 80s mainstream music is better than the 90s in my eyes. 80s punk was more hardcore and underground, which is fine. I'm not knocking it down. But the 90s was when punk was getting popular again, thanks to Green Day, Bad Religion, The Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, and Pennywise. There's plenty more of these punk bands sure, but again 90s rock has some good as well. 90s alternative and grunge were huge, we all know that! But we also had death metal! Thrash was dying out, although Slayer and Sodom were still doing thrash. Metallica and Megadeth went mainstream, less so of Megadeth, but still Rust In Peace and The Black Album are masterpieces. Countdown to Extinction gained more attention than Rust In Peace, but it's still a great album. I'm also a huge fan of old music. I love the 50s and 60s eras. The Early Who and Kinks were punky for their time. The Pretty Things were too. They're the most underrated band of all time. The first two albums were garage rock with a lot of blues influences. They sounded edgier, louder and where dirtier than The Rolling Stones, The Animals and The Yardbirds. They called it quits in 2018 but came back in 2020 to record Bare as Bone, Bright as Blood. Unfortunately, Phil May passed after complications of hip surgery after a cycling accident. I'm so bummed. At least their music will on. Very influential on many bands like Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, The Stooges, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Oasis and The White Stripes. I've been spending a lot of time with the British Invasion this year. It gives me so much nostalgia. I'm not like everybody else. I never been like my high school classmates at all (music specifically). I've always been interested in old stuff. Seeing retro stores selling merchandise from the 50s and 60s gives me happiness. Hobby Lobby sell retro logos. I think I've seen a picture of kids near Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field. I think that these pictures were awesome. Baseball was very popular back in the day. Seeing stores sell retro merchandise just gives me a ton of joy. And stuff that interests me. I found a lot of joy in retro stuff. Enjoying retro music and merchandise is what made me who I am. I still do listen to modern music though, sure. I'm still going to keep listening to modern music, but I'm not going to forget about old music. I'll still be jamming them out. Music makes me feel young and I'm young at heart.

the topic about Billy Joe using the n-word. there was a lot of that in 80's punk bands. The Dicks for instance. Dead Kennedys, etc. used in a way to illustrate the hypocrisy of racism, but still cringe by todays standards

i disagree hip hop was bigger than rock in the 90s if you include shit like tlc,salt and peppa,mc hammer with dr dre,snoop,wu tang etc.
