How can anyone down-vote any singer who can legitimately tackle this four octave nightmare of a song challenge - and a killer bass riff. Kicked this song’s ass.
this is one of those songs that, as a vocalist, is really humbling.. You think you have range until you try this song... transitioning to the falsetto so seamlessly is real talent...
Not just that but this and the original is commonly a key higher than standard E singers. It usually works best with capo 1 engaged. This is sung at capo 2 yikes
The original key which has that high E note is very hard to hit, I've only managed to successfully hit it a handful of times haha 😂 but I can hit and sustain the high B flat note in Ultravox's Vienna 👍
As a German, this video was quite comforting. I used to think only our audiences have a clapping disability, but those 5 seconds 1:05 - 1:10, what a relief.
I'm convinced it's a trait of Northern European extraction, after years of listening to a radio show (Prarie Home Companion, which I no longer listen to) based out of the US northern midwest (heavily populated by white Swedes, Finns, Norwegians, N. Germans, etc) with a live audience whose rhythmic clapping sounds more like machine-gun fire than it does keeping time to a beat. When the company would tour the country, the audience's ability to keep decent time increased with distance and dilution of the demographics.
Yeah..... those 5 seconds were painful watch. However, they may be on rhythm in 50 years when rivers Cuomo, weezers singer, turns 60 and starts to slow down when he performs that song.
Most people are 2&4 clappers. Then there's people who were in band in school and have it ingrained in them to move on 1&3 and then get self conscious and try to work over to 2&4, but rarely stay there for more than four bars.
FYI, gotta tell ya- even if it bursts your bubble, but it’s lip-syncing. It’s Not “cheating” or ‘Fake’ in any way, though, actually. Because it’s lip-syncing to themselves. The bands follows suit and records “Live” about 20mim. before the Performance*
I've likely commented on this live version twice before, but DAMN that was impressive. Folks who aren't in bands don't understand the musical IQ of this band. UNREAL...
Aw, give us non-musicians a break, not ALL of us are idiots lol. I can't carry a tune or play any instrument but it's clear that Weezer are greatly talented.
Haters will hate. I see a lot that on here. These guys are having a blast playing music they grew up with. Keep rocking guys and keep having fun. Keep the 80s alive. It was an awesome time. Been there....got the shirt.
@@watsonvillian Ooh, did my very tame criticism of one performance hurt your little feelings, kiddo? You really don't have to be a professional critic to hear that this singer doesn't have the vocal range to pull off these high notes, and that the keyboard was off-beat for a good amount of time in the middle.
Yes!!! Embrace the mistakes! It’s ok everyone. They still killed it. This is what happens when bands actually play live. They carried on, and it was just fine.
This cover and their cover of "Africa" are two of my favorite covers ever. I would listen to them non stop when they were released. This is my first time hearing a live performance of this one. River's and the band killed it!
Damn. I didn’t think they could make this sound so good live. Nice to finally see a crowd get into it. Usually on these morning shows they all just stand there catatonic.
I love their 80s covers, but I think I love their 60s covers even more. Stand By Me, and Happy Together were my favorites on Teal. I'd kill to hear them cover Build Me Up Buttercup, Wouldn't it be Nice?, Daydream Believer, Yesterday, and Oh Pretty Woman.
I think he stepped on his delay pedal and the delay was set spaced way out, so it sounded like he was playing out of time...then he realized what was going on, and stepped on it again to turn it off...I've only watched it once, so gonna watch it again to verify...kinda looks like that's just what happened there...
You know, there's something so charmingly dystopian about this band covering these songs like they're at gunpoint, almost exactly like the original song. Wouldn't surprise me if their next album was a vaporwave remix of the blue album.
@@suburbanindie you don't think a band like weezer essentially doing note for note covers to somewhat post-ironically fit into the current musical economy isn't kinda dystopian? eh, guess it's all up to perception.
@@KingBlonde The problem I have with it is they do a horrible job of it. I've never disliked them even with all the garbage they've put out that I don't like. But now they have crossed a line. I really dislike them, I pretty much do hate them. I don't hate any other band. I only hate Weezer. It's too bad because their first 2 albums were decent. I wouldve had no problem if they even covered a different song... this just pisses me off
I was never a Weezer fan. Bought The Teal Album after hearing their rendintion to that song. Got to respect the boys for the respect they showed for the anthems, the brilliancy of the production of the album - all songs sounds really great - and learned to respect Rivers Cuomo for his damn good vocals for every track, specially this one... Man, he can carry a tune properly.
Dude they're getting the biggest laugh at of all of this. They have such weird senses of humor. The are just chillin old school style to tunes our parents loved. Next is a cover of Like a Virgin lol.
Superlike it.im gonna play this with my band too.i always sing this in the videoke and some other new wave songs.good job weezer.still one of the best bands there is and aha.Godbless!
Weezer has been around since 1992. Their music video “Buddy Holly” was included on the Windows 95 install CD to showcase the operating system's multimedia capabilities. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kemivUKb4f4.html
I'm actually impressed.... and the forecast has called for a cold front with a potential of hell freezing over now that I have complimented Weezer in my lifetime.
@@gregoryfrancis8812 there's no autotune lmao he's hitting sharps and flats all over the place, it sounds exactly like rivers always sounds. don't just spew unmitigated crap because you have no fundamental understanding of audio production.
Once upon a time in the beginning of this century I was lucky enough to attend a Weezer concert in Barcelona...Great. I'm seeing they're still hitting the road.
I love the fact they are tributing to great music of yesterday. A whole new generation will love it too! This is a very hard song to sing and they sounded great. Aha would be proud.👍
KInda hard to do when they didn't exist till 1992. From Wikipedia: "Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California... on 14 February 1992 ". First Album came out in 1994.... Perhaps you meant "rock the 90's so hard"?
I thought they rocked it! Proves they can play a very hard song live and even with the keyboard out of time the can recover and continue like the Pros they are! Love It!
You got into them after they released Pinkerton, but before they released Green? Nobody did that! lol Kudos to you! I'm 40, I got into them with Blue and when Pinkerton came out my senior year of high school, it seemed like no one gave a damn about them anymore. Those were dark years until Green was released and suddenly everyone was talking about how great they were again, and then somehow that morphed into Green was ok but Pinkerton was better, when no one would have even given that album the time of day just a few years earlier.
@@RicoLen1 I got into Weezer after Pinkerton and before Green. I bought Pinkerton very cheap from the bargain bin in a CD store. I'm not even sure why I bought it, even though it was cheap. Maybe I liked the cover. You're right. No one would have cared about Pinkerton if the band didn't blow up with Green. Now people want to look down on the band for going with a more pop sound after the rawer sound failed commercially and almost broke up the band.
i think the lower notes are actualy harder than the high ones...that first ''take....on....me'' it takes some control level to do that right because the chorus comes from low to high
I saw them at Bumbershoot in Seattle years ago and they are the best band at performing live I've ever seen. And they were having a blast too. Weezer is not my favorite band but I respect the hell out of these guys.
I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but I always wanted to see Weezer do a cover of Take On Me, and I'm glad it came up on my list of recommendations.
A-ha would be proud. Still prefer the slow acoustic version by A-ha, but as far as faster rock version go this is great. I can't believe they didn't think this would go big.
