One day Weezer is orchestra, melancholy and "I'm just a bird with a broken wing", and next day it's Dad rock, Sanjay and Craig and "Pump it into me, please daddy"
Weezer 2021: “Turn the key and step into the blackness. Lamplight falls, and casts a laughing phantom.” Also Weezer 2021: “Pump it up into me please daddy”
@@rugrugrugrug I personally love lyrics like the top one, but something about Rivers Cuomo asking for daddy to please pump it into him is endearing to say the least
As soon as that crazy train riff landed I had to look at my phone to make sure it was still playing Weezer and didn't accidentally switch to Panic! At the Fall out Boy for some reason.
Ok seriously, we are still waiting on a review on "Smooth" by Carlos Santana and the singer of Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas. The 1999 hit single to win Grammy of the year, album of the year, and record of the year! Proving that it was the hit single to close the last millennium!
You don’t even know them it was “pump it up pump it up please daddy please daddy pump it up pump it up into me” stop being sarcastic and hipsterie about stuff other people were sarcastic and hipsterie about just to be sarcastic and hipsterie when you don’t even really appreciate the weez
For days,I have genuinely been clueless as to the influx of Weezer memes. I didn’t know this album existed. I thought the “pump it into me daddy” line was just a random Weezer line. I am astonished
Isn’t it weird how fantano loves all Weezer albums with bright (so white!!) colours like White, Hurley, Maladroit, OK Human and hates all the ones with a dark color like Black, Pacific Daydream, Make Believe, Pinkerton and now Van Weezer? Althony Rightano has exposed himself once again.
I feel you buddy, i'm still here waiting for a review on "Smooth" by Carlos Santana and the singer of Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas. The 1999 hit single to win Grammy of the year, album of the year, and record of the year! Proving that it was the hit single to close the last millennium!
Same here. I found myself agreeing with basically everything he said, but in general I'm just a bigger fan of Weezer's overall sound than he is, even when it's a bit derivative of itself. I'd probably give it around a solid 6 or so.
It pisses me off that the bonus/secret track on the album called “I’ve Thrown It All Away” wasn’t officially included in the album. It blows every other song in the album out of the water, listen to the song on RU-vid it’s so good
I wish melon would review the bonus track also, its called I've Thrown It All Away. Seriously, its a masterpiece, sounds like something out of pinkerton.
“She Needs Me” & “Precious Metal Girl” should 100% have been replaced by “Tell Me What You Want” (or even “It’s Always Summer in Bikini Bottom”!) & “I’ve Thrown It All Away”. That would have been sO good
I felt like Precious Metal Girl had such a great opportunity to break out into that hard rock sound halfway through, was disappointed that it was just an acoustic cut throughout.
Ya I honestly expected that too, I thought the song would be like Only In Dreams from Blue or Endless Bummer from White but I still think it’s a solid song regardless
I just realized how genius Weezer are. The cheesy lyrics, the oddly large number of ballads on a hard rock album, it's all intentional! They did what they set out to do, make a hair metal album! What would hair metal be wothout the cheesy, often sleazy lyrics, the hard rock riffs, and the huge amount of ballads? It's actually genius!
i really like the glitchy editing in some of your videos. Its funny and not over the top like the rest of stuff on this site. no annoying zoom in shots and overused meme sounds
I feel the 80s hatd rock stuff was Crush marketing honestly. This felt exactly as Rivers said it was in 2019: Blue Album but with more riffs. Not a bad thing IMO. But you have very fair criticisms. I may not always agree with a lot of your thoughts (I really liked Pacific Daydream and Black Album where you did not), but im always interested in hearing them
@@johndeleonardis901 I’m pretty sure he means albums that start with the word “OK.” Radiohead’s Ok Computer, Weezer’s Ok Human, and now releasing an okay album.
Did Fantony mix up "Beginning of the End" with "I Need Some of That" when he said "Beginning of the End" could be in the Green album? I feel like the "I Need Some of That" guitar solo tune copying the chorus tune is a dead ringer green album characteristic (Crab, Smile, O' Girlfriend, etc.)
@Perverted Alchemist Oh god please no don't remind me of Van Halen III...not that terrible photo album cover with the poorly photoshopped text...the awful lyrics...the awful mixing...it hurts...
I was feeling more of a decent 7 personally. I think the first half is pretty strong and I found it to be a lot of fun to listen to, the second half is where it starts to lose me a bit, but I don't think it's a total wash. It's not a bad album, but I think had it come out before OK Human, people would be appreciating it more, especially since it would've been following up the absolute nothing that was the Black Album.
The worst part about Blue Dream is how good the original demo version of that song is. Love the vocal melody, but it's impossible to take it seriously with the Crazy Train line.
Melon, I don’t understand how you ranting for 8 minutes about the fact that weezer himself doesnt own a van is relevant to the review but your time as a driving instructor is certainly noteworthy!
I don't see a yellow flannel, I'm already upset *Just watched entire video* I'm about to cry man I thought this was excellent. Points made were fair tho.
Weezer undwent that one episode of every sitcom where the dumb character becomes cool and at the end everything returns to the satus quo. They are back :l
I wish they were able to release this before OK Human like originally planned. I walked away from this album wanting to hear something with an actual heart. Van Weezer is soulless but not awful. An aesthetic album.
as a latin american spanish speaker that doesn't understand songs in english very fast, 1 more hit sounded super good hahhaha hope that nobody explain the lyrics to me cause maybe are too cringey lol
Van Weezer is honestly pretty good. I'd say better than Black and Pacific Daydream, but not as good as OK Human far as things are concerned. Still fun and absolutely fantastic to just throw on relax... in a strange, weezer kind of way. 7/10.
I absolutely love “I Need Some of That” and absolutely hate “Blue Dream” if anything Weezer is always surprising in good and bad ways. Also OK Human is a “10”
I probably would've went 6 to light 7 on this. Definitely some cringe/tacky moments like the crazy train ripoff but the songs are good for the most part. Also, the bonus tracks on the vinyl are great.
There’s actually two hidden tracks on the vinyl edition of the record. One is a full fledged song that actually feels like a 90’s-2000’s era Weezer song and the other is a short bit with Ric Ocasek singing lead vocals. Hopefully Weezer officially releases info on these bonus tracks soon
7/10 for me Hero and She Needs Me are not so good, al but the rest is great. Even tho the second half doesnt fit with the theme of the album, tracks like 1 More Hit and Shelia are real keepers. Blue Dream ain't that bad tbh, I can definitely see why they used the Crazy Train riff because it is quite similar to the original.
I enjoyed Van Weezer, Definitely prefer Ok Human because that's an album I can listen front to back, but I think for what they were going for I think they succeeded. Probably rate it around a 6 maybe 7 but that's just me and I also rated Ok Human a 9. (Also the fact that Ok Human was made after Van Weezer gives me hope that they will go around that route of more serious lyrics with their next 4 albums set to release next year)
8/10 album. I dont like how shameless the Crazy train riff is but pretty much the rest is a banger and Precious metal girl is just adorable and awkward and 100% Rivers
I feel like artists should release two albums: One for the fans that appreciate the music artists' own and original sound and one that experiments on a new sound.
personally i like EWBAITE more, the tone of the album and the themes just appeal to me more. but it, white, and ok human are the only ones to come close to the quality of blue's songwriting for sure
