Here are two things I think Weezer can benefit from: Either A.) Take some time with their next album. Spend more than a year on perfecting the next album they put out and get back with the producers that really did their albums some favors (e.g., Ric Ocasek) or B). Break up for a bit. Who knows? Maybe Rivers can pursue his own solo career and get all this weird meme shit out of his system and then the public will be hungry to hear from them again. (Then again, that’s exactly what Fall Out Boy did and look where they are now) Okay never mind just stick with A!

The entire reason people wanted a Black Album was for a return to Pinkerton's darker style, instead we got one of their most sugary and forgettable albums to date. My favorite song is probably California Snow because the heavy riffs against the arpeggios is at least a musical idea that doesn't begin and end with "what if we made it twee?"

Whatever you think of the quality of the records, Weezer are in a unique space in terms of what a roller coaster ride they are - few bands this established are this unpredictable and inconsistent. We genuinely just don’t know what’s going to happen whenever they release an album.

I personally love the black album it’s one of my favorites. All the songs have these really fun hooks and catchy lyrics. I love the dark pop aesthetic of the album especially on songs like high as a kite. It’s a fun album to listen to and sing along to.

Wow, it's probably the harshest Black Album review I've saw. It's sad what I have nothing to really disagree on. I just think this album is mediocre. Like Hurley without highlights like Unspoken and Trainwrecks.I would give it a 5.5, maybe 6 on a good day. At least it's not Raditude, am I right )

Since you focused on The Prince Who Wanted Everything so much, I'll share Rivers' exact quote about the song: "It didn’t start out to be about Prince. But as I was working on the song and listening to it every day, I just couldn’t help but be reminded of him and his story. I was such a big Prince fan from probably about age 20, even before Weezer started. I just started tweaking the lyrics to make some Prince references." Sounds to me like much of the song wasn't written with Prince in mind. The interviewer asked Rivers if the song was about Prince. He didn't actually say yes. He said he was reminded of Prince as he was writing the song - for obvious reasons - so he threw in some Prince references. Other than that, the lyrics are so vague I don't see how you can pull specific criticism of Prince from them. But I understand how RU-vid works. Your kind of performance sells.

TBH I think this guy sucks as a reviewer. He's always WAY too harsh on almost everything he reviews and easily gets way too passionate about these albums, like dude, they're just albums. He's really subjective and kind of an asshole... at least definitely compared to better album reviewers like ARTV.

I thought it was... fine. Not their worst, but certainly not their best either. Some good ideas not executed to their full potential with some pretty bad lyrics. There's some really good songs, like High As A Kite and Can't Knock the Hustle, but it falls short of what it could've been. I enjoyed having it in the background, but that's about it. 6/10

Why does everyone keep saying that new Weezer music lacks Basslines? Can’t Knock The Hustle, High As A Kite, Too Many Thoughts In My Head, Byzantine, I’m Just Being Honest, Zombie B*****, and California Snow all have basslines I can hum to. Pacific Daydream has a ton of good bass in Weekend Woman, Sweet Mary, etc.

I don't get why so many people don't like The Prince Who Wanted Everything. I didn't think it was amazing or anything, but it had a decent hook and to me it felt like Weezer did care for Prince, and wanted a way to show it even though they were a few years late. (My least favorite songs were probably Piece of Cake and Too Many Thoughts in my Head, because I thought they were both really bland and mediocre.)

It's ironic that you mention how Pinkerton was dismissed by short-sighted critics and fans who didn't understand it at the time. Because that continues to happen to Weezer. Rivers Cuomo is a brilliant songwriter. EWBAITE, the White Album, Pacific Daydream and the Black Album are all great. I would say they're some of the best modern rock albums of the past decade.

All I have to do is reference Pinkerton when I respond to critics of Weezer. It's been fascinating to me watching people's reaction to their two excellent albums that were very rightly nominated for Grammys and should have won. Everyone knocking PD and Black think they're better than the people who didn't recognize how great Pinkerton was. Hopefully they get nominated again this year and finally - and deservedly - win.

Well you want to listen to an artist that tributes Prince but in a way that's more the artist's own listen to Gary Clark Jr....like anything from him. This Land actually kicks ass. Pearl Cadillac is one of the best songs of the year if not the decade IMO!

I thought this was their best pop-centric album when comparing it to Raditude, Make Believe and Pacific Daydream. While not in my top 5 Weezer albums, I found more to enjoy about this album than dislike, though "Piece of Cake" and "The Prince Who Wanted Everything" were easily the worst tracks for me. 7.5/10 for me

My review: 6/10 (It was overall a pretty big disappointment, but it could have been better if they had just picked some better songs. I'm obviously not expecting them to recreate Pinkerton, but they could have done way better after producing an album like EWBAITE.) Favorites: Can't Knock the Hustle, Zombie Bastards, High as a Kite, I'm Just Being Honest Least favorites: Piece of Cake, Too Many Thoughts in my Head (I made my own version of this album that includes the unreleased Weezer songs Everybody Needs Salvation and Medicine for Melancholy instead of these, not because they're bad songs, they're just so eh.)

God, that takedown at the end was so cathartic. I never got the appeal of Weezer given how inconsistent they were (and how much of an insufferable git Rivers Cuomo is). Maybe I'm just pessimistic, I don't know. I just don't see the appeal of this band or this man.

I rate Weezer albums by the number of songs I skip. Black Album 9/10 (I skip Too Many Thoughts hate the cheerleader outro), Pacific Daydream 8/10 (I skip Happy Hour and Feels Like Summer) White Album 9/10 (I HATE Thank God For Girls) EWBAITE 9/12 (Skip: Ain't Got Nobody, Eulogy, The British) Hurley 8/10 (Skip: Memories & Smart Girls) Raditude 13/15 (Skip: Girl Got Hot and Turn Me Round) RED 7/10 (Skip: Troublemaker, Greatest Man, Automatic) Make Believe 10/12 (Skip: My Best Friend, Freak Me Out) and from Maladroit to Blue are all unskippable classics in my book.

Weezer hasn't had a stellar album since EWBAITE. White was way better than this but, still okay. Pacific Daydream was their worst since Raditude but, still not as bad, but, it still sucked mainly because it was boring. Black Album was a slight improvement, just meh, overall with a few good tracks. Teal wasn't too bad but, their cover of "No Scrubs" is fucking horrendous. Really Rivers? Really? I'm not against R&B and rock mixing but, it was just totally soulless and even creepy in some spots.

Raditude and Pacific Daydream are worse. This album was just okay. It has its high points, meh points and maybe one or two low points. It was a very meh album for me. It was disappointing and we all know Weezer can do better. Hopefully, their next album is better than this.

Good lord, Weezer is one of the most inconsistent bands ever. They have extremely good albums, mediocre albums, and crap. Like, wtf? Lol Good (all albums ranging between 8/10-10/10): Blue, Pinkerton, Green, Maladroit, EWBAITE, White Mediocre/Forgettable (maybe strong 5 to light 6/10): Make Believe, Red, Hurley, Pacific Daydream, Teal, Black Awful (3/10, with the opener being the only redeemable song): Ratitude

Blue, Pinkerton, Maladroit, and White. Those are their only good albums. Everything else ranges from forgettable (Green, EWBAITE) to downright awful (Raditude).
