Today we're going to take a look at the Locomotive Audio Weight Tank WT-72 tube preamp. We are going to put it up against a vintage Neve 1272 / 1073. The WT-72 is based around two EF86-style tubes and is an excellent and affordable tube preamp made in the USA.

I still remember your Upton 251 Demo ... Your voice on that was sublime ... !!! For this demo ... after repeated listens ... withthe GAP 251 tube color already present ... I am now preferring the Neve Pre more than the WT72 Pre for this Mic . I think the WT72 might suit a more mellow FET Mic like a TLM 193 😊

Love the way the Weight Tank opens up the top end on your vocals. Nice hifi sheen. Or maybe it’s not adding anything and just sounds more “sheeny” in comparison to the darker Neve.

Thank you Christian I was always skeptical so you could or can get some NOS ones if wanted or needed well that’s great not that it’s needed but you no lol thanks for posting there’s not a whole lot out there on this thing surprisingly 🙏

Which mic have you used for the Test ? And the Voice Over ? 🙂 The " Hey Guys " Intro Line sounds classy ... Your voice is a Major Plus as always !!! 🙂

Thanks Christian !!! The GAP 251 Mic in itself should be really creamy !!! And the WT 72 the icing on the Cake ... I always feel that Sonically Mic is 75 % and Pre is 25% ... Your thoughts please 🙂 Recently I saw a Demo of the Aztec Tube Mic by Rosewell Pro Audio and was really Impressed . Please try to Test it out on your Channel !!!

@@ssdigitalmixmaster8036 yes, the microphone is allot more important than the preamp. Not saying that the preamp matters of course! I'll check it out, it usually quite difficult to get manufacturers to send me mics so we'll see. Thanks for watching 🙏
