I feel like ever since A Moon Shaped Pool, Thom Yorke's just sort of... giving the fans what they like. In a good way. I mean he seems at peace or something and just seems to want to make folks happy
Yeh he really seems to enjoy just playing and seeing smiles. Also maybe that’s a reason why he started the Smile band - just making music that makes him and his band smile
might also have been 'since the pandemic' - lives so fleeting - maybe he just realises that people get so much joy from what he decides to do, and there's nothing more valuable than making other people happy. IDK. It would be great to have to think about that 'problem!'
It really is, and when I learned how to play it I was astonished how simple it is. More does not always equal better, they just hit the nail right on the head... again.
I can tell you it was sooo much more than that. I started the chorus. He winked directly at me. I was THE HAPPIEST PERSON in the arena. I still have shivers and a wide smile on my face. This is the story I told my children when I came back home: See that wink? It was for me!
i read the other day that people think his voice isn’t doing well. I rlly think it’s going alright. Not many 50 year old rockstars can keep their voice as well as thom. Albeit it ain’t perfect but i think it’s amazing still
I also saw a few reddit posts about it. Sounds fine to me, especially since this is live. Can't expect him to have a perfect voice every time as anyone knows that their voice and throat can feel different from day to day.
@@kodexi2761 i mean his voice isn’t as good as it was in the 90s but i still think it’s great 🤷♂️. People expect too much from live singers who don’t use autotune. I cannot wait to see rh live
yeah he's not as good as he was (this kind of stuff is where 2022 thom shines the most, it's mostly the big loud belty stuff he struggles with nowadays) but goddamnit he's good for a 53 y/o who's been touring most of his life
The audience chorus was really sweet. I'm usually the guy that dont record performances in fear of covering someones view but I'm glad you recorded this
The original orchestral version of this song from the 2005 Ether Festival was the first video I ever watched on RU-vid. How time soars. I really like this solo version. Almost has a UK folk vibe to it, like something Anne Briggs would sing back in the early 70s.
I only found this song last year, along with looking through a good chunk of Radiohead's discography for the first time. I haven't listened to In Rainbows yet, saving it for last, knowing how beautiful this song is. Really loved this quiet performance, and a great audience as well!
Long time fan here... And Rainbows is probably one of their most accessible works. It's a very cohesive album front to back. I can always put it on and love it till the end. You really should headphone up and listen! Lol
Was there. And this song was ruined because I needed to go take a dump. And the bogs were rank. And no bog paper was available. So I had to use the bog tube to cleanse my ring. And I hate that!
Thank you to whoever filmed this and to this channel for posting. It was a surreal moment for me watching Thom play this solo with the crowd interaction
I was working on fake plastic trees and true love waits. I think he's just phenomenal and one of my most favorite voices...and Radiohead will always be one of my favorite bands. When I sang it I said I would attempt to do Thom Yorkes voice justice
2:15 Hahahahha! Oh God, that's perfect. :D What a wholesome moment... The crowd doing the BG vocals, (and growing more comfortable and in sync with each measure) and I can't imagine how Thom feels hearing that, I'd be so happy lol. This is such a human thing

Thank you for posting, one of my faves from that album and the soundtrack of the crowd adding to the acoustics sent me shivers. Glad they are back on the road! What powerful lyrics. "I hit the bottom and escaped." 🧡🧡🧡
Thank you to the person who filmed this. Normally I'd frown upon such a thing, because the effort it takes is robbing you of enjoying the moment. But just like Jesus, you died so that we could live. Or some shit like that x
Just stunning, Thom York and Co’s ability to slow down this crazy spinning carousel we call life is and always has been remarkable. The ability he and Radiohead have to make us stop think and listen is one of a kind. I saw Radiohead live a few years back and was the best show I’ve been too so far in my life. 👍🏻
I slept on them for 15 years couldn't get into them then they just clicked and I'm crazy about all of their stuff now...anyhow, I went crazy and saw 4 out of 5 Madison Square Garden shows for A Moon Shaped Pool...3 of them on floor no further than 3 people deep from center stage!
In the deepest ocean The bottom of the sea Your eyes They turn me Why should I stay here? Why should I stay? I'd be crazy not to follow Follow where you lead Your eyes They turn me Turn me on to phantoms (way out) I follow to the edge of the Earth (way out, way out) And fall off Yeah, everybody leaves (way out) If they get the chance (way out) And this is my chance (way out) I get eaten by the worms And weird fishes Picked over by the worms And weird fishes Weird fishes Weird fishes I'll hit the bottom Hit the bottom and escape Escape I'll hit the bottom Hit the bottom and escape Escape
I dropped acid in 1998 when Meeting People is Easy came out with a group of RH fan friends in my barracks while being investigated for our Top Secret clearances in Navy Intel school in Virginia Beach. They were all RH fans and at the time I wasn't. I was (and still am) a real music snob and all I really knew of them was Creep at the time. The acid must've burned them into my subconscious. Two mornings later my alarm clock radio went off at the moment Thom's beautiful vocals were playing on Karma Police (for a minute there.... I lost myself...., well, you know). At the time OK Computer was so unique, so beautiful and dark, and the sound was just so thick and full. That night, I took that huge chance of taking acid (the one and only time in my life) on a military base, in intelligence school. I am so glad I did. I've been in love with this band and everything else Thom has been involved with ever since. To my friends who were there with me- Jonathan Major, Sean Turner, Louis Archiello- I think of you often. That brief period of time with you was one of the most memorable times of my life. Now, in my mid-40s, hair going grey, face beginning to sag, skin getting old... I hope this comment finds you, somehow, somewhere. You were all very special to me. Thank you for insisting that I give RH a chance. I know JM has since turned away from this band- I think you're crazy, by the way, but you were always the one that got away. I love that JM that I met back then, and still do, though I know you are now a totally different person with a whole life that has gone by since. Sean- you were such a sweet person. Remember our drive from Virginia Beach to California listening to OK Computer and the Chemical Brothers? What a trip. I'll probably never see you all again. I'm glad we had that blip in time- Katy.
Omfg im so emotional for this that i can’t understand what he says at the begininng. Im so glad that he played rh songs, im cryingggggg, what a setlist ❤️🩹 Thank you so much for these videos!
At the beginning of this song, (which was the very last he played after he’d come out for the third time!) he said he was to play one he doesn’t normally play alone, meaning without the band.
This song has always reminded me of weekends on drugs. Everybody needs to leave, if they get their chance, and this is my chance. I hit the bottom and escape. You’ll all see each other again, but it might be a sunset as you see the last car leave and realise you’ve got work in 48 hours and need to get home yourself.
Yes, I think about 60% were Radiohead fansI and the festival also sold a lot of VIP tickets, for the whole week, including hotel and everything. These people might not even know Thom, or were expecting Creep and Karma Police. Some even walked out after a few songs 😱 Thom saw it and said in a funny voice: don’t go, I’m not finished! 😄
