The "Head Cheese" you had is common where i live. The one you had looks quite close to the original recipe as described by you. The name we use for it translates like "Press(ed) Saussage" and you can find it even in supermarkets. Though being closer to the original recipe the one you had is considered as being of lower quality as there is far more fat and aspic (gelly stuff) and less meat than in high quality ones. But that's also a matter of personal preferences. It is commonly eaten as a cold (=room temp) meal with vinegar and salad (pumpkin seed-)oil topped with cut onions & tomatos and bread with it.

@@user-fn2fo3yb9r yes I absolutely agree. I've purchased a whole durian multiple times before. There is no way I can eat it all at once. And I cant leave it in the refrigerator or else (even if you put it in a container it will stink the rest of the food up). What I do is take a peice(s) I want, then wrap the rest in plastic and put it into a container then freeze it. When you freeze durian, the odder isn't as strong as if it is room temperature. And being wrapped in plastic inside a air sealed container also helps. But, if I did the same to it and put it in the refrigerator, the simple smell would overwhelm everything and cause other things to start smelling like durian. To experience the true taste and smell of durian is usually room temperature. Just buy a whole one (let it sit out to room temp if it was frozen or in a fridge) then crack it open and eat it. Make sure it's either summer time, or you're inside where it's normal temp. not cold weather.

Currently living in Paraguay, cow tongue is normal here, a common dish is Lengua a la Vinagreta, not a huge fan but its not bad. You gotta try cow foot soup (Caldo de Pata).

I had a beef tongue taco once and it was incredible, the meat gets so tender and the individual fibres fall apart perfectly. Ox tail, pig and chicken feet, etc etc all taste great if you can get around the appearance.

Beef tongue is actually delicious when prepared properly. The texture isn't what you would get from a steak, but the flavor is amazing. The only off-putting part is the texture at the surface of the tongue, which is just like your own... but bigger.
@ChairmanMeow1
@ChairmanMeow1 2 года назад
I ate it a lot when I was younger cause we were poor. Its weird. Its not disgusting, but its not good either. The texture is what always bothered me the most. It either reminds you of your own tongue in a bad way, or its squishy and not meat-ish in texture. Still, if you're broke, there's worse options out there.

In Denmark we have something like head cheese called "sylte" as a classic christmas dish. It's a boiled and jellied pighead with pepper and all spice. It's sliced cold and put on an open face sandwich of dark sour rye bread with mustard and sweet pickled beets and it's suuuper delicious!
