Countries with sharia law will never be "developed". Or you think it's normal for people from another religion or sexuality to be oppressed? Throwing women in jail because they won't wear a hijab. I lived in Iraq (Kurdish part) for my first 13 years. Truth be told, Iraq as a country has never ever been dangerous. It has always been external forces that has caused it problems. By that I mean even when Saddam in power and there were both Kurdish and Shia insurgencies, the problems never boiled over into cities or actually making cities unsafe. ISIS became a problem simply and regrettably because the Arab part of Iraq is just not united. That isn't in any way shape or form a criticism, but it's a reality. Resentment on the part of Shia for their treatment at the hand of Saddam is still very bitter so it is a back and forth situation when it comes to governance. That lack of agreed leadership and direction leads to weakness and that's why the Iraqi army had its guard down when it came to the brief but very real ISIS. threat. Thankfully though, our Kurdish forces pummelled them. But the point I'm trying to make is that for a normal person who just wants to live life and enjoy what Iraq has to offer, you'd literally be among the safest people on the planet. I'm Kurdish but love all of Iraq. I certainly wouldn't say any of this if I felt you'd actually be under any sort of threat if you visited. Iraq and Iraqi's are just not like that. Our problem is external interference and of course, the Turks.

are you choctaw? Did you know that during the great genocide(famine) in Ireland in the 1840s, the choctaw nation ppl raised $1000, even though they weren't super well off themselves, and sent that money and grain to Ireland, not a lot of books contain that information, so if you are choctaw, thank you to your ancestors from Ireland.

@Nagolbud Nice reading comprehension you got there. You missed the keyword "intentionally." Every war has civilian deaths from crossfire, and virtually none of them are on purpose. Try reading a book.

Indigo Traveller The Assyrian sites are (were) mostly in and around Mosul and big parts of them might be totally obliterated and purposefully damaged by ISIS insane culture and history enemies. Before the Gulf wars I visited Niniveh, part of the 27 gates of the city were restored and each was guarded by a pair of huge winged bulls with human heads, long curly beards - about 4m tall each - it was an amazing sight. These in the link are in the Louvre in Paris but the ones I saw in Mosul where exactly the same. In the centre of Iraq was also a rebuilt ziggurat - a staired Babylonian pyramid, I don't know if that survived the wars, then at Babylon were the Gates of Babylon, copies actually because the originals are in a museum in Berlin. encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTLOIv3jaMm8N4PZt9otpqQjVmhyJBgnESHoOLyyCSiOTFjyKGqew

"It's very safe." It isn't April fool day. The U.S. Department of State assesses Iraq at Level 4, indicating travelers should NOT travel to the country. (www.osac.gov/Pages/ContentReportDetails.aspx?cid=25657 ) Every Westerner visiting these troubled regions of the Middle East run the risk of being kidnapped for ransom attempts. I have forgotten how many Western civilians that have been decapitated because their governments rightfully denied payout of ransom. Another risk is suicide bombers. Just because it's calm this month (?) doesn't mean it is the next month. Baghdad isn't Copenhagen. Still, I'm pretty sure Baghdad can be awesome. Maybe I'll visit one of these days. Have a great day!

Instead, you go to more'forbidden lands'" - AGREED, however, I would like to add that the MAIN reason I watch this guy's channel (and subbed) is because of his spirit; his personality and it feels like he genuinely cares about us, who are watching and, in a sense is taking us WITH him rather than speaking AT the camera and being a poser and/or trying to be "Mr. Hotshot Traveler," or whatever. Would be so cool to meet and have a beer with Nick, however, I doubt he's going to be traveling to the forbidden land of Dallas, Texas anytime soon :-)
