The only one I truly thought was a bad ad was You Cannot Beat Us. Japanese ads did seem to be better. Wii Would Like to Play was not racist. They're Japanese people so they talk in a Japanese accent. I also kind of thought of it as them coming all the way from Japan to share their new console with us.
I know the reasoning but the reasoning is lousy. You can't really gage the public reaction. Did people play despite or because of the statement. You can't really say.
Well, gauging public reaction is the main purpose of advertising. When it works, it works. Since this is something that happened in the past, we _can_ say whether or not it's successful.
Convincing people to buy stuff is the main purpose of advertising. They don't exactly scientifically study commercials, or not very thoroughly, to determine effectiveness. They don't account for how much the product stands on its own, for example. Word of mouth is another element.
Just because WWII happened in the past, doesn't mean we can accurately determine the effectiveness of the role of Army depot clerk in the war. Your statement is just as dumb.
Oh my goodness, that commercial with Link and Wario was so cute, as was the one with the new outfits + J-pop music. Those are some good commercials. I remember seeing some of the other ones on tv. They were as weird back then as they are now.
That Pokémon Red & Blue commercial is nostalgia for me. It always appeared after the Pokémon VHS tapes from VIZ! I also remember the "Wii Would Like To Play" ads too, I might still have one recorded on a Sonic X tape I recorded on TV. Good times...

Man 3DS commerical blew me away. It shows our favorite video game charcters in they're cartoony self showing of the personallties of them. If to see that commerical for one cence how many times i want. I would blow my bank account

I was kinda hoping you'd include the US commercial for "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island", especially since it involved a middle-aged guy eating so much food until his belly bursts, and we even see the contents splattering everywhere at the end. XD
