Weird Places In The Hoenn Region! (Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald) 

It turns out that there's a lot more weird places in Hoenn that I did't cover in this video. Thanks to some people in the comments who mentioned more weird places, inspiring a part 2! In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the berry master's house was actually extremely important solely because his wife post game can give you the Pamtre berry, which is the easiest berry to make the poke blocks that help evolve feebas into milotic.

That cave makes it easy to shiny hunt zubats, *very useful*

Pokémon Emerald is my favorite Pokémon game, and Hoenn is my favorite region. A big part of that is due to the vast amount of places to explore, the region itself is just beautiful, and the Pokémon are awesome. Throughout my years of playing Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, I only ever encountered Mirage Island once.

Huh. Pacifalog was always one of my favorite locations; it’s weird to think there were people who didn’t find it.

There were so many cool “secret” areas in Hoenn. I felt that it did exploration the best out of any of the games because of how non-linear it becomes once you have access to surf and the way that it’s constantly offering up optional content. Some cool places worth mentioning that are optional: Abandoned Ship, Shoal Cave, Sealed Chamber and all the Regi stuff, Jigglypuff Island, New Mauville, Battle Hill, the back part of Meteor Falls where you fight Steven in Emerald, Trick House, etc

This is part of why gen 3 games are still my favourites, so much to explore!

I remember when back as a kid in recess we all had Emerald and talked about supposed hidden places and Pokémon. Most of the time they weren't true, but we were still so excited when we talked about it. One kid told us about the Regis and we didn't believe him at first, and later our brains exploded when it actually happened. Now with Internet you can easily tell if a rumor is fake or not, but I kind of miss the magic of the unknown.

Altering Cave was supposed to be where you could catch eReader Pokémon. Remember how Pokémon cards from 2002-2006ish came with barcodes on the side? If you swipe those cards into your eReader (Digimon Tamers-style), that's what would trigger the event dialog shown, and that Pokémon could potentially appear in Altering Cave.

Altering cave used to give me the creeps. I had no idea what was the point of that cave when I first played emerald.

It's this kind of thing that makes gen 3 hoenn so special to me. There's nothing quite like wandering around and finding a secret, secluded cave, or island, or anything. Gen 3 hoenn also had the original regi trio puzzle, which is my favourite method of obtaining a legendary Pokémon in any game to date.

I absolutely love Hoenn, it’s my all time favorite region everything about it is amazing. The cool places make the game a whole lot more interesting!

Emerald also had the Mirage Tower in the desert and the Desert Underpass in the digger's house.

In all my years of playing Gen III I never got lucky enough to visit Mirage Island. I knew of its existence and I spoke to the old man in Pacifidlog every day hoping he would see it. Of course he never did. For those of you who have been there you were very lucky. I forget what the odds are of seeing it but you have a better chance of finding and catching multiple shinies in the same file than getting Mirage Island to appear.

The Berry Master's house is actually very easily accessible, you don't have to jump through all those hoops at Mt. Pyre, just keep going right after you surf from Mauville

One of my favorite odd areas in Hoenn is Route 115. You can access a small portion of it normally north of Rustboro, but most of it isn't accessibly except via Surf. Because your last major visit to anything connected to it is well before you beat Norman and obtain Surf, it's unlikely you'll come back to Route 115, but it's such a cool little side area with a few trainers to fight, and it's nice that the route partially takes place on some cliffs on the edge of Meteor Falls' western side. Just overall a nice optional area.

My personal favorite was Scorched Slab. Functionally its useless outside of TM Sunny Day. But I love how GameFreak thought to implement a location based off a real world legend from the area the Hoenn region is based on. Its the details that make a game special.

I've actually been on Mirage Island, I don't consider myself lucky so it's awesome to have gotten the chance to visit it. I just wish I had some proof to show off. Maybe I should've caught a Wynaut well I was there as proof...

Mirage spots have to be my favorite odd spots. They give off a weird but relaxing vibe. In the remakes they made it so you could catch legendarys in ORAS. Their really cool in my opinion. You should do a vid about useless/pointless places in X/Y

I think it's stuff like this that makes the new games feel a little empty. There's just less mystery to it all, I can't put my finger on exactly why though

There's a few you missed, the underwater regi cavern between pacifiglog and the city under mawville city, the route above Rustoboro you need surf to access, the ice cavern above mossdeep city that is only accessible in low tide(I believe), the areas where you catch Groudon and Kyogre post game too

The Trick House north of Slateport. The story never brings any attention to it, it’s just somewhere to get experience and items as you unlock more HMs, with each round of the Trick House having a basic gimmick.

I always had this feeling that most caves in gen 3 are wasted potential

I always wondered about Altering cave in FireRed as a kid, I would go back there frequently to see if anything had appeared or if I could interact with the different coloured dirt.

3:09 i remember being told in middle school that Rayquaza could be caught in sapphire near pacifilog town. It was before we had a laptop with internet connection so there was so much mystery to those games which made all the more fun

Ah Mirage Island, the place I tried to get to everyday back in May when I was playing Emerald for the first time with a real copy even though it had a new battery and I never got lucky with the island

worth noting that all the pokemon that were supposed to be featured in altering cave events made it into the expanded safari zone in Emerald (another special area that you don't need to visit), with the one exception being Smeargle who you could find in artisan cave instead

Never realized Pacifidlog Town was missable. Naturally ran into it (i guess by accident) my first playthrough. So i just assumed it was important. XP

I think I only got mirage island with my gameshark in the time I was exploring hidden things years back but I was a little disappointed. It didn't exactly live up to the hype everyone gave it. It was hyped as where you could obtain Lati(a/o)s by a few of my friends

Speaking of weird places, New Mauville was kinda like one? I mean, okay it's technically a power plant and a hotspot for electric types but there was always something about it that felt off, and sometimes even creepy with the music and how empty and (especially in the remakes) how derelict-ish and abandoned it looked. Not to mention, since you unlocked the area through a cutscene with a gym leader...you'd think that the place would have more significance in the overall plot. I remember being surprised at the sight of Wattson OUTSIDE his gym and panicking while exploring New Mauville in fear that the place might blow up somehow? So I avoided encounters there as much as possible haha. Apparently 5 year old me thought that there was a hidden countdown and that enountering electric types would speed up the count and make it more likely for the generator to explode oof btw this was a nice video to watch before bed, got me in the mood to play Emerald again aha

Another place could be the Abandoned Ship on Route 108. Albeit you do see it for a second when using the ship to get to Slateport, but you need surf to get there, and you don’t get surf until a bit later in the game, and by then you probably forgot about the ship

weird thing for me is i knew about these areas because i would look at my map and see an area i hadn't explored yet and always felt compelled to do so. I always felt infuriated if i didn't explore these areas, to fill out my map

I didn't even know Scorched Slab existed until a RU-vidr brought it up, without a doubt the only place I ever missed in Pokemon

You can get to the Berry Master's house from west side. It's not until shortly after the house that you'd need to come from Mt. Pyre. Also, there's Shoal Cave, which is interesting because it's the only place you can get the Shell Bell and Snorunt. It's also the only place where the passage of time is apparent, besides the daily events and berry growth.

I don't know why but sometimes I get this weird excitement/fear as a kid exploring this hidden places. It was as if I'm not suppose to discover this or something😆. It kinda freaked me out, what if there are other stuff I didn't explore yet, what other places I haven't explored yet?

You don't need to Surf down from the Mt. Pyre area to get to the Berry Master's house. You can get to it from the Mauville side.

I remember going on the route between pacific log and the sky pillar multiple times didn’t see anything. Someday I went to pacific log town and the guy said “i can see mirage island today” I didn’t pay any attention to it though I thought it was a place you couldn’t actually go to.

I had over 790 hours on emerald on one file and I only found mirage island once

I remember stumbling across mirage island in emerald and then the next day I couldn’t find it I was so baffled. The internet wasn’t at my finger tips either and I had no idea what RU-vid and when I found it people where still using webcams to record there DS for let’s play episodes. But I couldn’t find anything about mirage island my friends had no clue and I had no internet to find it out :( I’m so glade I caught the Pokémon on mirage island that day though.

The berry masters house is actually really easy to access. You can just keep going East when you enter route 118 and you’ll be there

Im pretty sure pacifidlog town existed to catch the regis becase of the currents next to it, the town is in an ideal spot to launch from. you have to navigate the currents to get to a specific dive spot and if you fuck it up starting from sootopolis or re-setting multiple times would have been really tedious.

I swear on my life I remember encountering an Aerodactyl in the Altering Cave in pokemon emerald when I was younger. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I really feel like I did

I never beat Ruby because I got lost in Victory Road without the HM Flash and escape rope. Yeah, I didn't talk to the hiker in Granite Cave, and this has been bugging me for a long time.

The best game in the series in my opinnion

Mirage Island has a less than 1% chance of appearing in ruby/sapphire/emerald. And if you are playing on the original hardware and the internal battery has ran dry, you will most likely never find it as it is an in-game timed event.

You can reach the Berry Master's House fron Mauville...

The places you mention was use to place the legendary in pokemon emerald xy its is a rom hacked that base on emerald version but many changes like that cave you mentioned is nothing just a simple cave but in pokemon emerald xy thier was the legend trio the regi steel or regi rock if im remember correctly and the cave see in battle frontier was use to collect z crystal for z move in pokemon emerald enhanced qnd the mirage island was visible too in pokemon emerald enhanced version and thier was a requirement to get the legendary suicune... for me that useless places in original emerald version good to be place to find legendary for some new edited versions of pokemon emerald cause its kind of boring when you finish the whole game and nothing to explore but because of that mysterious places that was useless in original version its kind of challenging now cause you can hunt a legendary on kind of places that look like a useless cave... just like the cave that you can get arceus in pokemon emerald xy thier was a hidden cave that i forgot when its located but its a super tricky place cause you need to choose one way in 3 way cave to in and if you choose the wrong passage you will back from the start at the front of the cave... its kind frustrating cause its a dark cave end you need to use flash hm to see but its kind enjoyable cause you need to solve the puzzle to get arceus in the end.... so for me that useless place you mention in this video was a grate place to place legendary on other rom hack....

Pacifidlog tells you when you can see Mirage Island if you don't know when it's available and also if you walk to the east sraight off and start surfing, you have the easiest no encounter way to the cave to open the regis caves. not useless lol

Feels like Hoopsandhiphop copied the exact thing about Alering cave or vice versa. Anyway, I believe you can get Berry juice in Gen 3, by giving Shuckle a berry.

Verdanturf Town also is a very easily missed town, I know a friend who missed it only her first gameplay. Suprising but yeah, verdanturf isnt nescesary

It took me 9 years to find out the was regice in my ruby version I saw it on youtube and thought it was fake but when i did it i was surprised shocked i don't know the words to describe it. Back then i was poor I never had internet I saw it from my uncle BlackBerry if anyone remember those smart phone

Wasn't there that weird door in that one mans house in the last gym area(been awhile since I played so I forgot the name) there was a door that lead to no where since it was blocked by three plants and even if you wall hack to reach it I won't bring you anywhere apparently it was used as an e-reader event which wasn't possible because it was only available in an event which (I believe) was canceled [i just remember the house and not what it was intended for so don't @ me since I haven't played the game in 3yrs]

"you can't enter it from the west side from mauville at all" hmmm weird how i do that every day to check on my berries because mauville is just so conveniently close and makes it so easy to access the area from when you fly there.... you sure you did your testing on emerald?
