To give a little perspective, Weird Al has 6 platinum records and joins Michael Jackson, Madonna and U2 as the only musical acts to have a Top 40 hit in the 1980s, the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s.

The following things about Weird Al in the movie are 100% true. He did start playing the accordion when he was a kid and it was a door-to-door salesman who sold him the accordion. But he never wanted to play the accordion. His father wasn't Amish or worked in a factory or lost any of his limbs. What is true is that is friends in college help him make his first big hit on the Doctor Demento show. He never had a party full of rockstars when he was starting out but people did expect him to whip out parodies off the top of his head during some parties. He did win awards for his parody songs. He also wrote several new songs that were not parodies. His biggest hit song that is not a parody is One More Minute. A song he wrote after he broke up with his girlfriend. He never had a downward spiral and fame never drove him to be an a******to his friends and family. Although his political stance has alienated some of his fans. You should have watched and listened to his music videos and some of his albums before you even came close to watching this movie. Don't ever watch an autobiography film without doing the research first.

@@Purdyflexreactions Biography films are the exception to the rule. Especially when it's about a comedian. With any biography type films you have to first know enough about the person to be interested in seeing the whole story. Good example is Bruce Lee. Dragon the Bruce Lee story is pretty accurate to his life but has been way way way way way way over traumatized. Fun movie though. Then there is Steve Martin. He never had a bag of film made of him but in his youth he did a lot of "fake interviews". One of the interviews he was showing off his house... His invisible house 😆. He once told a reporter that cat juggling was a real sport in Mexico. The point is you have to do your research when it comes to biographies. You can't believe everything they put in the film.

The description of Weird Al as a sex symbol is hilarious if you watch any of his music videos. But yeah, in reality he's ultra wholesome and wrote tons of music before making it big. He's an outlier that he never had drug or alcohol problems. He just kept doing his thing along with polka music. In the film it's funny that they take him down when he picks up his accordion, because at his actual performances, he regularly brings it out and plays. People say his concerts are really entertaining and fun. I admit I was fooled too, but I knew more about Al's life going in. It was the "eat it" part where I was like "Ohhhh, it's a fake backstory movie all the way", and then it kept getting more unhinged with the Madonna stuff and I just had a good time. Sorry you didn't vibe with it, but great reaction!

@@Daniel092004 love this comment! Yeah tbf I knew nothing going in. At the time I kind of resented the film for being a lie when it said it was true. But now I just look on it as a funny jape that got the reaction I think it was trying to provoke 😂 I wouldn’t watch it again but it like that it was different from the usual biographical films 💁‍♀️💓💓 thanks again for taking the time to comment 🥰

Have you ever seen Walk Hard? Same idea, except Walk Hard is about a completely fictional musician, whereas Weird Al is real (though nothing like his character in the movie). He watched all the big musician biopics out there, saw how formulaic and fake they all are, and decided to give the biopic genre the same parody treatment he gives pop music. Also, just as an aside, while his videos are cute, Weird Al puts on the most incredible live music performance you'll ever see in your life. He puts on a better live show than the Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce combined.

If you want to enjoy another great movie, but this time knowing in advance that it is a fake biopic, try "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story". Al Yankovic made this parody because he himself was sick and tired of being lied to by dramatizations of real life people. Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story, all the Elvis true story movies and the worst of them all Roots. All contained lies and exaggerations of what actually happened in the real people's lives. Roots is the worst because the entire movie is based off of a book that's full of lies had everyone believed it 100%. Even the people who made the film and started it believed the book 100%. Turns out that it's a work of fiction with virtually no resemblance of reality. So this movie is weird Al's big middle finger to all of those other so-called autobiography movies. He wanted many people to feel the way he did when he found out those movies were chock full of lies. Plus it was funny too.
