Weird tuning (AGCFAD) 

mastodon uses this tunning to for some of their songs, but it's a fun tunning to mess around with

Actually Omega from Periphery is CGCFAD tuning not AGCFAD....

This tuning is basically a 7 string tuned down a full step with the D removed (A D GCFAD). Pretty cool. I'm more of a 7 string guy but I have been thinking of trying different wacky tunings. Something like A#CGCFAD or ACGCFAD etc. I'm a big fan of the tone of thinner strings on the lower frequency strings (7th 6th) but at the same time, I like more tension on those strings. I use extended scale guitars to get a higher tension while using thinner strings (usually not thicker then .054) to get the best guitar tone and sustain. The idea of this wacky tuning (A#CGCFAD) is to get the best low-frequency tone with the C string possibly using a .050 string then a .054 for A or A# which starts to lose the sustain and guitar tone. I had an 8 string for a while but I didn't like the F# string tone on a 27" neck. 27" is not long enough for a good tone on an 8 string to my taste. I thought of tuning the 8th string sharper but those wider necks are not very comfortable to me so I switched back to 7 strings with baritone scales (27" and 30" .

Alpha is in AGCFAD.

This isn't quite sikth tuning though. Sikth tunes to Ab Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. If you wanted to do the equivalent of that based on this tuning, you'd have to drop your low A to a G. Basically the best way to think about it is this tuning would be a 7 string tuned to A Standard (low to high ADGCFAD) but with the 6th string missing (i.e. the low D) but Sikth uses the same principle based on Drop Ab (Ab Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb) again with the 6th string (the Eb) missing. That means they get 2 octaves by barring the 2 low strings on the same fret. Really helps to get that dissonant feel as well as some full bodied chugs

SikTh don't use this tuning. They use Ab Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.
