There is a HUGE difference in now and then, when i was a boy every building was a business, personal and five and tens, Hills, buster browns, 4 dealerships, etc... trucks lined up picking up steel, it was safe with older generation, the new generation was destroying it all , my elders predicted the shut down of steel mills, and i left, i didn't want to but had to . Today it appears to picked up but they are all outside business corporate, that doesnt get spent in the city a regeneration of wealth. I was brought across state line from Paris to be born in Weirton general Hospital - things sure have changed since the 60s ... thanks for the memory !
Keeeping mom and pop stores is so important, rather than Walmart, but what can I say. My grandfather had a businesses in Weirton and lived in Wellsburg. The transition from coal and steel to more modern technologies never really happened in Weirton. Politicians didn’t want to get voted out so they still to this day claim coal is alive. Weirton could have been a lovely tech community, just a commute from Pittsburgh.
