Weiss Schwarz is Afraid of Union Arena, OSICA, and Build Divide!

Japanese Weiss Schwarz announced new titles are coming to the TCG: Nikke Goddess of Victory, Re:Zero Vol 3, Fujimi Fantasia Bunko Vol 2, and Sneaker Bunko Vol2. English Weiss Schwarz announced Nikke will be coming. However they didn't talk about the other announcements.
I take a look at the quarterly earnings to see what has happened to sales of Bushiroad TCG products.
I think Bushiroad and Weiss Schwarz is concerned about competition in the Anime TCG space. Union Arena is releasing One Punch Man, Bleach Thousand Year Blood War, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, Code Geass, and Demon Slayer on the English side. On the Japanese side, Union Arena will have Gakuen Idol Master, Wind Breaker, 100 Girlfriends Who Love You So Much, Undead Unluck, Shy, and Attack on Titan.
OSICA TCG will be releasing Highschool Dxd. Build Divide is releasing Bocchi The Rock Premium Booster box with hand signed signatures and serial number cards.

My condolences to you and the family. They did say Nikke was coming in English in April 2025, just wondering as always if there'll be sign cards. Also a huge pipeline of other anime too

TY! i imagine there will be signs. reason is they are letting us know ahead of time which basically says, "you dont need to buy the jp version." itd be quite the rug pull if they had no signs.

Super hyped for Nikke ❤ have to start saving right now 🙌 Competition in the TCG industry is a nice thing in my opinion, maybe Weiss Schwarz will step up and improve like Union Arena did ☺️

What is the liquidity like for these JP sets/JP-only games in the US market? It's such a a small subset of a niche that I think that figuring monetary return on openings or investment might be wasted effort.

i think if it were cards like playsets level, i wouldnt even try to think liquidity. the cards that are liquid are high rarity with signs, serials or artwork based. the other side is sealed. have u seen osica my dress up darling? even looking at weiss where sneaker bunko is now. there is always opportunity.

Still early to say UA will do good. Bc bandai is known to kill off their tcgs bc of poor support from them. So hopefully they actually support this one and actually print enough product for the demand and not treat it like OP.

too early but a lot of interest and money so far. the IP difference from Weiss paints a stark difference. I can only hope in Bandai.

@@BigBAnimeTCG yea only hope for bandai. I really don't want UA to turn out like OP. Weiss is lacking in the IP department. Especially for the EN side due to the licensing issues.

@@v1n558 agreed but i know people judge a release right from the start like lorcana. i dont think it is make or break to have some supply issues since we would want some value and not have all the prices tank.

I still need to make a video on it but tbf if you’re a collector only, nikke coming to WS won’t mean too much. WS aren’t going to get pen signed serial cards in the set. I know the UA reprint won’t have them but as a collector which one is going to be more interesting and potentially hold more value… Another interesting thing is looking at UA selling out AOT before release vs WS last AOT release As a player of course that’s going to be great news if you’re interested in nikke as you are much more loyal to a particular TCG than compared to a collector. Obviously the only thing is that WS may have Nikke in English first!

Great points! UA is absolutely killing it and WS has nothing but legacy in comparison. BuildDivide is just going to get bigger too with that Sony money.

@PokeMike i wouldnt say that about the weiss release. you still have artwork. pen signs are huge but not the standard for weiss which has been "fine" without it. if UA had azur lane with pen signs, that would necessarily kill weiss' release. likewise will people buy nikke weiss in english still or wait for an english release with potentially pen signs? is UA print to demand? i dont think the comparison can be made with weiss schwarz. AOT final season was over ordered by sellers just like Dengeki.

what bugs me more about weiss is their use of signatures, why does Bocchi not have VA signatures in the TD?, why the Bang Dream premium set despite using the same art for 3 cards and being their own IP still doesnt have VA signatures on the SP? I hope this stop being a problem when Union Arena releases, they are being too complacient

bocchi was to save money. same with spy x family and lycoris recoil. guessing of course but it makes sense that was the reason. all premium sets are done so lazily. the collectors only need some foil and they will buy it. the VA thing i wont be able to understand unless that is an added on cost. theyre gonna get steamrolled if they keep this up

I think the one thing you’re overlooking is Nikkes popularity. Particularly when it comes to “waifus”. There’s a reason the UA set sold so well. I doubt WS doesn’t do great in all languages.

i didnt overlook that at all. UA has been doing outside of Nikke recently. Having that IP helps. great is a little overboard given q3 numbers. i doubt anyone in corporate at Bushiroad would use the word "great" as sales have fallen. Their use of the word "soft" is basically admitting something is going wrong.

@@BigBAnimeTCG Idk what you mean outside of Nikke lol. For UA, did u mean good or bad? And I only mean the Nikke IP for WS will do great. Not sure if you play the game, but that game burst onto the gacha scene and it's been consistently at the top of revenue numbers. All of it's merch is selling well, it has a cult following already and it's only growing still. Game is amazing btw, we all start for the "plot" but we stay for the good story and gameplay.

@GrizzlyX well the point of this video was to say weiss schwarz wants people to buy from them and not union arena. there wasnt any real reason to mention nikke's popularity since that wasnt the point. this video highlighted how union arena had been doing well to the point weiss had to do what they did. yep ive played nikke before. i downloaded it 12/22/22. a bunch of viewers commented me to check it out and hoped a card set would come.

@@BigBAnimeTCG Ok, I hear you. I'm glad UA is doing well outside of Nikke. I didn't mean disrespect btw, with my first comment (or any). Nikke actually brought me into UA and I'll be around for those new IPs when they come to english. When I first started searching I was kinda hoping WS would do a set since I know they did Azure Lane, but I bought UA since it was all I could find. Now I'm looking forward to both UA and WS.

Weiss is dropping the ball. They start the trend with gold signatures and move that to worthless stamps and useless serial number cards. Stamps and serial numbers are cash grabs and offer no real collectablity. Personally if they don't treat the English sets the same as the Japanese Sets it will cost them a lot of money in the future. Personally the English sets are total trash. I don't even care when the English sets release. I don't read Japanese but I like the Japanese releases better for collecting.

I think it really comes down to timing. Weiss has a few sets that pulled the same art. yet Weiss somehow is still chugging along. I think it is right time and right place. I think a good portion of people never heard of Precious Memories. OSICA Highschool DxD will do well because of this. Then you can look at Lycoris vs Lycoris vs Lycoris. They use the same art and I think it hurt all releases since people knew about all 3 releases.

@@BigBAnimeTCG To be fair Weiss been chugging along since 2007 they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. But my main issue with Osica and maybe even Build Divide since they're a newish tcg I was kinda hoping to see something different with their cards only to be disappointed to see the same work as others. Union Arena seems to be the only doing something different out of the three as they have some awesome looking cards. Timing certainly plays a part just like we saw with Lycoris but you'll have to do video on how well the Osica Highschool DxD set does when it releases. Maybe a comparison to other Highschool DxD sets. Also, how dare you, Precious Memories isn't old so I'm sure folks are more aware of it compared to like Chaos TCG lol.

@ItDoesntHappenOften the reason why weiss is where it is was that they offered english when others did not. the boom happened and here we are. jp tcgs are as sought after by those starting to look at tcgs. good luck finding a majority of people who know precious memories or chaos tcg. i think the tcgs are different enough. art of seasons basically will be the same if they use the same seasons. then it comes down to getting new illustrations, foil treatment, signs, and signatures. Bocchi came out in Build Divide before Weiss. wouldnt weiss be the one that copied Build Divide. plus they gave signs only in the ssps. the rest were stamps. the td was laughable with a character sign. that is terrible. remember lycoris? same thing. at least rebirth had serial numbers in the td. what do u think about one piece?
