In our opening plenary, Gretchen Daily (Faculty Director, Natural Capital Project), Mary Ruckelshaus (Executive Director, Natural Capital Project), and Kim Bonine (Head of Capacity Development, Natural Capital Project) welcome attendees from around the world with remarks on the current momentum around natural capital approaches.
The 2024 Natural Capital Symposium brought together 400 people from more than 45 countries at Stanford University for the first Natural Capital Symposium since 2019. Attendees discussed mainstreaming natural capital and ecosystem-based approaches in governments and international financial institutions; advancing private sector financing for nature and biodiversity; the frontiers of urban nature and health; and the connections between equity, justice, and nature - among many other topics.
