There was a very interesting pub called the Dr Johnston towards Clayhall - used to drink there in 2008 when I was teaching at the boys' grammar on Fremantle Rd. The pub felt like it was stuck in the 70s, but what a wonderful s-p-a-c-e (like the Palm Tree pub in Mile End but a lot lot bigger. Think squatters and Tesco occupied the building until last summer). Also the Fairlop Oak, which my partner took me to when we started dating in 2002. I remember a big group of skinheads scaring us into an early departure. Went back 10 years later and it was suddenly all-middle class. Will wander the backstreets of Clayhall this summer and take some photos.
that 'interesting looking building' i used to live in (the flat above) when it was costcutter in 2007. It was the most haunted and horrific experience of my life! before then it had been a brothel (we did not know this when we moved in)
Oh my life. This video made me sob, i used to live very close to there just over a year ago and i haven't been since. I am so glad i moved however, its a dangerous area down there
