He’s absolutely right about the habit. Pain meds (opiates) hijack the reward centers in your brain, making you obsess over getting that euphoria, and make you panic when you can’t get it. Everything else becomes less important (job, family, socializing, cleaning). That becomes your only goal in life. You will lose your self esteem & your will to live.

I respect the message, and I agree with homie's sentiment! My family moved from Guadalajara, Mexico to Chicago. I noticed that Chicago gets a bad reputation in movies and in US media like Mexico does, but similarly, they both have hidden "paradise" only known to those that live here (especially with money or privilege). There's a vibe, an energy, and a spirit here in the city that produces certain personalites and culture unique to it's own.

I loved the walk down Gladys Avenue between Cicero and Laverne. My great grandparents, my grandparents, my parents and I lived on that street at various times between the 1920’s and the 1960’s. We lived at 4904 West Gladys, and my grandfather as a boy lived at 4902. I love that block. Thank you for the video. While I know the neighborhood is very depressed now, I wish I could share with you what a vibrant place it was when I was a child in the mid 1950’s. Thank you for sharing.

The gangs in the neighborhood that you’re filming try to keep that part as safe as possible for out-of-towners because it’s a heavy drug area there’s people from all over the come there to get their drugs all them neighborhoods off to 290 make lots of money and they fight each other for control of that money Other neighborhoods out west in Southside and even Northside are not as welcoming even though the neighborhood you’re in is still one of the roughest they don’t gang bang on strangers unless you’re getting robbed

Man this brings back memories. Grew up in parts of the area. At 1:06 my older cousin crashed into the pole in front of that building. DUI. My mom actually asked me as a kid to follow him to make sure he got home ok. Nope. We used to sit on the patios and play in the alleys near the park. Then in the early eighties I remember the grown-ups always talking about selling and how the neighborhood was changing. My dad took us to the MontClaire area first for a few years, then over into Elmwood Park. The older family that stayed mostly lost out on selling their homes and finally did at huge losses. The gangs and drugs really did a number on some areas.
