Tom's a walking, talking minefield of information. I can't imagine there's a better New York City tour guide and i've seen more than a few on youtube. I'd love Tom to do some old v new NYC vids. I'd love him to check out Joseph Mitchell's epic work ' Up In The Old Hotel' and walk us through that city within the city that NYC today. Communication is an art form in itself and this guy's got it down to pat.
My mom worked in a Ybor city cigar factory for 5 years in 1975. The factory closed and was abandoned in the 80’s, It was close to Desoto elementary. My Father worked at the shipyard. We lived in that area for about 10 years.
YOU DID A GREAT JOB WITH MY HOMETOWN, NYC. I LIVED THERE FOR 40 YEARS IN MANHATTAN AND DIDN'T KNOW HALF THE HISTORY YOU COVERED. NOW I LIVE IN TAMPA AND AM GETTING EDUCATED AS WELL. TY
Great job of presenting Tampa. I’m from Tampa and I have a history degree. I’ve been on walking tours in Ybor and you did a great job of capturing the history.
@@DenmarckAddams5657 no sir,...what u mean is the ones YOU'VE HAD are garbage....come to Tampa i send u to the real....leave those 7/11 fake cubans alone boss. 😏👌
This is also my hometown (6 generations) I was actually born about a block from The Cuban Club. My family came to work at the cigar factory many years ago. My dad designed the Immigrant Statue in Ybor City . Your facts are spot on. Well done. 👏👏👏
Wonderful tour! I'm originally from Brookyn, New York, moved to Florida in 1993, moved to Tampa in 1999, lived there until 2011, but started cigar smoking in 1999, and been doing it since. Tampa is absolutely the mecca of cigars. I'm in St. Augustine now, but I still go a few times a year to the cigar shows and such.
I can’t believe I’ve been watching your videos touring NYC all day long only to find this Tampa video! Lol I’ve been living in Tampa for 18 years but I’m definitely gonna watch this Tampa tour just because your tour guide style is so funny and interesting! 🎉
Tom, you should do a tour of Clearwater and all the Greeks who are sponge divers there. There is a long history of Greeks leaving the Greek Islands and going to Clearwater and continuing the business. Great video BTW!
I so enjoyed your tours of where I live now, Tampa and the areas of Ridgewood and Bushwick NY. where I lived 1st 20 years of my life... Appreciate your knowledge, demeanor and pacing.
I liked this little walking tour. Having been born and raised in Tampa for the first 30 years of my life, this was like going back home again. Sad to say that I haven't been there in over 17 years.
Bro! I’m a third generation florida native and I work in tampa everyday... that video was great! You dropped a bunch of facts I didn’t know and your delivery is awesome.... keep it up... great vid
Thank you for putting this out there! Nice to see Tampa from your perspective. Next time you’re visiting perhaps a video on St Pete? I’m sure fellow Floridians out there in the world would love it.
Born n raised in nyc but now relocated to Clearwater last year . Work in Tampa . I love this place and the people . My yankee ass staying down here !!!! Great video
Loved that you came to Tampa, my office is at the Italian club in Ybor City, But you didn’t mention the underground tunnels that run throughout Ybor city to the near by Port of Tampa which was used during Prohibition. Love your channel I’m from NYC so I’ve seen all your RU-vids. Keep it up!
You definitely know your shit. I love this video because I recognize every area you walk through with memories with friends , girlfriends and even drunk assholes that want to ruin everyone's time with all their ignorance lol. Thanks for the tour brother it brought back great memories and it's going to make me go this weekend. And you should get these places to sponser you. You speak well and lay out the info smooth. Take care from a Tampa fl resident.
I'm glad that you acknowledged the chickens of Ybor. Indeed there are wild chickens all over the Gulf-side of Florida & it's a neat tradition that people (mostly) leave them alone. Great videao. I moved here in 2014 & knew a little of the cigar history of ybor, but your presentation makes it so interesting. Gaspar's Grotto is my favorite bar in Ybor.
Another great video Tom, so cool that you got to interview your High-school buddies. Could you interview some of your old High-school teachers next time? Love to hear what they would have to say.
West Virginia was actually the last to become a state east of the Mississippi when it separated from Virginia during the Civil War to join the Union, but Florida was probably the last territory east of the Mississippi River to become a State.
Nicely done, would have liked murals and street art and old cigar box art. (You had five seconds of it at most.) In addition if there was 1940's cracker box cottage architecture during the war build out, would have been interesting, along with homes of Spanish influence. It must be impossible to find a Banyan tree laden street in Tampa. Wonderful video ideas.
lol!!! that short clip of you in front of the school is under appreciated! thank you for this video! been educating myself on the history of tampa and would love to pick your brain on some rumorsssss about tampa history
Fresh video, Tom! Nice break again from the usual stuff. Great work by Silvio and Lucie as well, she seems to conveniently be in the same locations as you to do camera work a lot. Liked for the almighty algorithm. Looking forward to more, as usual. Cheers!
Went to UT in 69-70. Funny coincidence; as I was leaving to go to University from Bklyn. My dad told me we had relatives in shrimps down there. Guess who .. Joe Versaggi
Incredible history commentary. I always thought the pavers on the Ybor sidewalks were incredibly decorative. It's been a while since I've been there - I'll have to go back again.
I love the pavers also. They always remind me of going shopping in Ybor with my grandparents. That's back before the malls when we shopped downtown and in Ybor. Memories!!!
I also grew up in Tampa/Hillsborough County .. back in the day Thonotosassa, was considered the "Sticks" lol I've been gone from Tampa. now for 25 years. Thank God I know how to cook Cubano food.😁lol
Plant city is all industrial parks and business parks and an enormous giant Amazon fulfillment center and Thonotassa I’m not sure and Lakeland a full on small city not even a county seat suburb type town
@@grahamparks1645 in the early 70's I can remember my mom saying, "You can count the cars that go down 301 on one hand during the day." I would go to HCC Dale Mabrey campus and it would take 35 minutes from Thonotosassa.
