They need at least one more character that represented a weeb who is a fucking degenerate to make it Reddit the Show. They need to reboot this show by adding that degenerate weeb.
You've got, MC Chris as a voice, The Aquabats to do the intro and a story base that most young adult boys can relate to.....Why in the hell didn't this happen!? This was lightning in a bottle and they just twisted the cap and let'er RIP. I can appreciate this for what it is, a hidden gem.
The reason it never got greenlit was entirely because the budget for it was just too big for [as] to handle at the time according to Evan Dorkin himself. But Dorkin is at least glad it got to happen.

Its because they had to change so many brand names in the pilot. The comic did much better because Dorkin could actually put in the references without copyright infringement i guess
To be fair the geek culture trivia contest had a lot of obscure references which they even had to change from the original comic, it could easily devolve into extremely niche territory but at the end of the day it was budget what killed any chance of this pilot becoming something more so that point is moot. I am answering a decade-old comment for some reason that feels very fitting.
@@g.sergiusfidenas6650To be fair, the 10 year old comment seems to be paraphrasing RebelTaxi, who speculated that the references were one of the reasons the show wasn't picked up.
Its so weird to me. During the 90s, being a nerd and liking Anime and Comic Book was something that was laughed at. Now since its mainstream, people strive to be that. Its like wow, tables have turned
the best adult cartoon i had ever liked since beavis and butt-head. sometimes i'm still pissed off at stupid cartoon network for not giving the show a chance by at least giving it one season, since one episode was never enough.
@emptyglass78678 episodes of this with the author’s input would have been at minimum good. From what I’ve seen, the comic itself is pretty good and the pilot was alright. It could have transitioned into something good if given time.
I love how Josh has this "oops..." expression after spraying Bill's face by accident, but knowing how they both act in the final show, it was most likely on purpose.
After I saw this I immediately looked up the comics and boy let me tell you, the amount of sheer hostility these characters display here is mere child's play compared to what we get in the original source material. In one issue, Bill snaps and actually tries to kill the others by lighting the comic store on fire
This pilot is great, but it's tough to see how this would have really worked as a full series. The comic gets darker and darker from here, with the epilogue being about as pitch black as it gets. If a full series meant softening Evan Dorkin's commitment to showing how shitty the members of the Club (and especially Bill) are, I don't think it would have been worth it.
ELTINGVILLE CLUB (members). 1 bill dickey (secretary of comic books and president of the club). 2 josh levy (secretary of science fiction). 3 pete dinunzio (secretary of horror). 4 jerry stokes (secretary of fantasy games amd group's dungeon master).
I wished that Adult Swim could have made this into an actual series that could rival either South Park, Ed, Edd n Eddy or Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I wonder if there would be a show that portrays the toxic side of both the Anime and Video Game Communities. This also includes the Fanfic Writers, Shippers, Fetish Artists, Bloggers, Cancel Culture, Critics, Stalkers and Haters. Anime like Chainsaw Man, Tokyo Ghoul, Naruto, Attack on Titan, RWBY, Your Lie in April, Bungou Stray Dogs, Durarara, Castlevania and Avatar. Video games like Dragon Age, Fire Emblem, Baldur’s Gate, Final Fantasy, Tales of, Soul Calibur, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, Fable, Hogwarts Legacy, Demon/Dark Souls, Assassin’s Creed, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper and World of Warcraft.

@@garbowler5202 Nerd culture and its references existed in 2002, but it wasn't as mainstream as it is now. If this came out today, it would be very relevant.
@@joaovitor10yearsago Sounds about right. It's a shame that most people who've seen this pilot never get around to reading the Epilogue to the comic itself.
