In the years 1764-1767 some kind of animal attacked and killed a large number of people, mostly women and children but also a few men. Others where attacked but managed to escape. The situation was so bad that the French king intervened, sending soldiers and hunters but to no avail. The creature was described by survivors to look somewhat similar to a wolf but not quite, which lead to a large number of wolves getting killed, but the attacks continued. Exact numbers of victims are unclear - estimates range from 60 killed and 30 wounded to over 500 in total. The attacks finally stopped in June 1767. Up to this day it is unknown what type of creature was responsible. The most common theory is that it was an unusually large wolf or wolf-dog hybrid, but other theories exist too. In particular the options of a male maneless lion (which is a variety from the Tsavo region in Kenya - male lions from this region usually have next to no mane), a striped hyena or an exceptionally large feral dog have been discussed. The movie Brotherhood of the Wolf is based on these events.

Welcome back to Toussaint, Red. 7 months since you accidentally started this DLC and beat Golyat the giant. Er, I mean, since you had a dream about it, because it didn't happen at all, honest ^^. At the time (when you dreamt about it), we said it would be months before you got to it 'for real'. Now here you are, all growed up, main game and 1 DLC behind you 🙂. This is a loooong one, most publishers would have released it as a stand-alone game - it's that big and that good. [Sorry I'm almost a day late. My first night away from the yacht in almost a year, and I missed your upload! "Never get out of the boat, I've got to remember"]. > 15:05 "Comes alone this time" (book lore): pre-books Dandelion had an affair with the Duchess, for which the Duke sentenced him to death. In-book Geralt and gang go back to Toussaint, although Dandelion is really worried, for obvious reaaons. It turns out the Duke is now dead, and the Duchess welcomes Dandelion with open ... arms. Much later, towards the end of the books, Geralt takes Ciri to Toussaint to show her this wonderful, fairy-tale, place but as they arrive they find Dandelion has been flirting with the maids and now the Duchess has sentenced him to death. They all flee. I can't beat the bruxa...I've died 20 times and it sucks I can't progress without killing it!!! I should've just watched this on RU-vid and I'm on story mode...

No spoilers, but I lost count at over 100 in Blood & Wine of the Easter eggs and references to famous novels and books. The opening oger fight has about 8, of course Don Quixote's windmills is one, etc...

There's bits of Arthurian legend in this DLC. King Arthur and Excalibur!

Regis is one of my favorite characters in the lore just charming all around likeable guy.

I'm pretty sure the Pellar sells all the diagrams for greater runestones. The Ofieri does too I think, but you have to upgrade him to master level for his enchantments first. I expect the master craftsman in Beauclar will sell them too, as Blood and Wine makes a few things more easily accessible. I always think the same at 3:05, that theme and the area is my favourite in the game (along with the Tourney grounds).

Yes, Geralt has been in Toussaint before. He and his friends had to spend a winter there. Which is why the Duchess required he came alone this time. I don't want to say more because you might want to read (or listen to) the books.

The announcer at at the arena is Le Papillon, he who wrote the 'You Turd!" note. Hint for finding a future (unmarked) quest: After you have completed a long quest involving Guillaume (the young knight), look for Le Papillon in the southernmost part of Beauclair. He will be standing little ways straight south of the Nilfgaardian Embassy signpost.

Oh, in my two playthroughs I totally missed that you can get treats for the "unicorn". I just used Axii...

I don't think there's a single voice actor in this DLC with an actual French accent. Still love it to death.

Regis is from the books. He's probably the best character in all the books. Geralt and company first meet him in a cemetery. He is very polite, courteous, intelligent, and is described by everyone in Geralt's company, including Zoltan, as smelling very nice. He claims to be picking mandrake weed in order to make some homemade hooch. He is also a healer who helps one of Geralt's friends. After he rescues Geralt and Dandelion from an entire army Geralt finally realizes what he is. Regis explains why he no longer drinks blood or harms humans. It's because one night, after he got drunk on blood from a villager, the entire village captured him, cut off his head, staked him in the heart, burned his body, then buried it in a grave for 200 years. All the other vampires spent the entire two hundred years laughing at him. So after he regenerated he pledged never to drink blood again. Now he just drinks mandrake wine instead.
