Ive been heavily debating on buying this. The amount of videos that show them wearing out and back to an open diff within months with heavy drifting worriss me. Then the other horror stories of it blowing up the diff. Convince me this will last for some years of heavy drifting and ill buy one
No one claims LSD conversion kit is for heavy drifting, if you mean by that drifting on the track. Actually, this is exactly the point of the problem. Guys buy the set, often on some discounts, install it unprofessionally, fill it with whichever oil is handy, and expect the performance of the pro-level LSD unit that costs 2000+ eur for 200 or less eur (what they paid for the conversion kit). Even in those cases, we sort that out through the warranty process. However, if it is used on the street, with the recommended oil and adequate installation, it will last for years. As it did in any car, we installed it it.
I'm chiming in here as well, I needed a LSD for winter sliding, during summer I don't drift it at all. That's where this kit comes in, if you flog it in low grip and low grip only, it'll last for years. Mine's been in use for 3 years and counting, receiving abuse every winter in a 320D @ 550Nm, still no issues. If you want to go drifting on dry tarmac, not even stock 168/188 factory Limited Slip units from BMW will hold up. For that you need either a 210, or, when it goes for 168-188, a custom Limited Slip unit from Racing Diffs.
