Building up a corner claw on a princess cut diamond in 18ct white gold using the Lampert PUK 3 Professional Plus welder on Gap 6ms 25% power. I add gold on top and then down the sides. There is a photo of the finished job at the end of the video (I built up all 4 claws and filed/buffed them into shape, using a flat scorper to cut the inside edge nice and neat).

Another great video! Thanks for the tip on keeping your work held firmly to keep the electrode from sticking.

EXcellent work...thanks for showing......I had a PUK ten years ago, and I could never get the level of skill you demonstrate here....the nib was always sticking to the work and required cleaning up all the bloody time.....my old unit also had an Argon shield gas. I dont hear any shield gas on yours, is that right ? what is your opinon on shield gas ?...........Seeing your skill with the machine is getting me serious about going for it again (I sold mine).

Yes the argon is still needed just the same, maybe the flow rate of it is less than on your machine ,so is quieter. The reason the electrode was sticking to the work is that you need to hold the work really solidly. This allows the electrode to withdraw from the work instead of sticking to it and pulling it back with it. Holding both hands steadily on the base keeps things firmly held. These welders do take patience and dedication to learn. I persisted with it for a few months but found my confidence in using it eventually. I had a Puk 3 for 7 years and now have a Puk 5 which is more controllable and has more welding modes which makes life a bit easier.

Just got this welder, but the tungsten tip is not staying sharp that long, do you know what could be the reason?

If I weld platinum or palladium the electrode will go rounded on the end quite soon. With other metals it lasts a lot longer . After sharpening, I put a very slight flat on the end which helps a bit. Lampert recommends doing that.
