Rubies damage quite easily when you weld next to them so in this video I show you how I use a sticker to protect the ruby.Any sticker will do - the ones I use are just paper labels.
The claws on this rung had to be built up. It was a very difficult job because there are 3 rows of rubies side by side and I had to weld right next to them.
The welder is a Lampert PUK 3S in GAP mode on 30% power and 6ms.
This is the first of my videos using the Gitup Git 2 camera. I fitted a small macro lens and filmed in 2K, then when editing, zoomed in to 1080p which brought the ring in closer. My previous videos were filmed with the Mobius camera in 1080p.

Orion puts out a coating to protect the stone. I found out the hard way, on another stone. Not really a lot of info on using pulse welders. I will try the sticker method. I hate the roach clip you have to use to ground the piece. I even bought grounding gloves, but too much resistance to work. Thanks for new methods!

ratrod40 I only use a sticker when welding alot near a stone. More often I use a thin (about 2mm wide) strip of emery paper (I use the blue Matador 1200 grit paper) but anything tough will be ok. I just hold it against the stone temporarily, to protect the stone. The clip I use for grounding is actually ok as I have shaped it inside with 2 different widths of D shaped shanks so holding rings is really easy and as it's smooth, doesn't mark the ring much. A method I also use alot is to use kitchen foil, this work great. It can be shaped or if you fold it a few times into a strip, it's good for rings when you have already polished the shank and don't want to mark it. A tapered spike is good for grounding pendants etc. I have intended doing videos on things like this, so I'd better do some !
