This is how i manufactured and replaced the inner and outer wheel arch on my 2010 Jeep Patriot. This video shows the process of shaping thin steel and welding into position.

I did the bottom corner of the arch where it joins the sill, but unfortunately didn’t film it.

Thanks for the positive feedback about the repair 👍 A strip and clean disc, sounds saucy somehow 😂😂 Thanks for the info. I don’t have to go into the local car parts shop and ask for those discs that only take the paint off. Normally greeted with blank looks on faces 😂😂

This is great, well done. What's the mileage on your car if you don't mind me asking? Mine is on about 135k and just passed its mot a lot of effort on the mechanical side. My rear wheel arch isn't as bad as yours and I was thinking of doing it. But, I noticed that the plastic moulding that runs along the bottom of the outer sill area, below the rear door you're working on, was sitting slightly awkwardly. I thought a clip must have come away... I took a closer look and a general squeeze and it made all sorts of crunching sounds. I removed the remaining clips to find the bottom 5 inches of the outer sill area almost completely missing. Squeezing the front half and the other side gave similar crunching sounds consistent with it being rotten. I'd be interested to know if you have the same problem, and to watch you repair it first! I've bought some galvanised steel sheet in preparation, but it's going to be a lot of work! Plus side is it's going to be hidden by the plastic so doesn't have to look all that pretty. I couldn't decide whether my missing 5 inches of outer sill was structural or not as it appeared to have been attached with spot welded tabs, but it must be as the c and b pillar attach to the sill and floor through it. The mot man couldn't see this at all from underneath, and don't really want to go back to ask him what he thinks...

Thanks for the positive comment 👍 My Patriot has 70,000 miles, but its still an old car in the uk with salt on the roads. As it happens, when i removed the inner arch liners to replace the wheel arch, i found exactly the same with mine. I then removed the rear side skirt to find exactly what you described. I did the repair off camera as it takes twice as long to do the job when filming and i just wanted it done. I noticed the same as you did, with the outer sill only being attached on the lower edge with tabs. I did take some pictures but no video. If you would like, i can send them to you. hello again. do you know if the crown on the flywheel is changed or do I have to buy a new flywheel? I have 5 broken teeth and the electric motor is coming off. thank you

@@user-be6hb1sz7d Hello, i’ve not done the job myself, but as far as i’m aware the teeth on the flywheel are part of the dual mass flywheel assembly. The 2.0 crd engine is a Volkswagen 2.0 tdi 140pd engine if this helps. Hope this helps 👍
