Welding Tools Build Welding Table Clamps Welding Project. When I buillt my DIY welding and fabrication table I also built some of the best welding clamps at a fraction of store bought prices using some 12" F-Clamps i bought at HF. If you have a welding table than these clamps are a must have welding tool. I show you how to build them step by step. I also include welding tips with lots of interesting educational information.

Moring Brandon, great job with the clamp making. Really enjoyed the first build on these and from that time to now there has been a price increase but still a lot cheaper than buying the ready made clamps. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.

Glad you like them! These are a lot cheaper than the store bought ones and just as heavy duty. They feel really heavy and have a nice finish on them.

I needed the same style clamps to use in my woodworking bench, I bought HF wood clamps for $2.99 the F style clamp, I cut off the head and bought 5/8 bolts from tractor supply 2 for $2.69 welded the bolts after grinding the flat cut off the threads and left the shoulder they work great for wood working as well as welding. And cheaper than the clamps you used. Yours are better clamps but the cheap version works fine for me! 😁🛫

I just bought an engine stand on casters. I will use it only ones for the intended purpose. I was thinking it could be converted to maybe a fabrication table. I'm thinking since one end swivels this might make a cool adjustable welding surface. Do you think this would be practical or useful?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 года назад
@velodaman I cant quite picture it but as long as it's a secure solid surface and doesn't move around I dont see why not.

Great video as always!! you can the proper size rod too cut it down and weld to the base of the clamp. I think I spent 8.00 for 2' long section. makes a mess load of clamps. love the heavy duty clamps. Great job!

@David lopata just make sure your plate is thick enough. It might not work if the metal is thin

I’m trying to setup my tiny shop for both metal and woodworking. Any idea why woodworking fixtures and tables are based on 3/4” holes and metal is 5/8? I’m trying to minimize tables/clamps/etc and make everything as dual purpose as I can. Any advice on which way to go?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 года назад
Well I just learned something Mike... I thought they were all 5/8". Just a suggestion, I laid out my fabrication table 4" on center but a lot of the prefab tables are laid out 2" on center. You could always drill it 4" on center with 5/8 then drill it 2" on center with 3/4 then you use over the counter store bought clamps for either wood or metal. I do occasional wood projects and use my metal clamps. I guess the drawback is they get covered with spatter and anti spatter spray so if you don't wipe them down good, the goop that collects on the clamps transfers onto the wood and stains it. Plus I'm guessing wood clamps have a soft pad and welding clamps dont

@@BrandonLund thanks! Food for thought. Btw, you have mentioned you buy shoulder bolts by the bag at reasonable prices. Do you have a link or a store name? I’ve been looking since you built the fixture table and they all seem at least $5 per bolt.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 года назад
Hey Mike I've had good luck sourcing them through ebay. Unfortunately your 5 dollar price is pretty close. 5 bolts on eBay are about 25 bucks shipped...but it'd still cheaper than buying store bought clamps

@@BrandonLund I've been wanting one all last year along with some other big Investment tools like shielding gas for my welding machine and a table saw. There's alot of neat projects I wanna get into. I think this year I'm going to attempt a bed frame and if I get a couple new tools I wanna build a mini 4x4 rock crawler. Harbor freight has a new 15hp engine 😳 sounds dangerous 😁

Why does everyone want to use shoulder bolts instead of regular grade 8 bolts? They're extremely expensive and there is absolutely no need to have such a snug fit! Put a regular bolt on and just hand thread a nut onto the bottom of the table and the clamp will never be able to work its self out of the hole. Simple and MUCH cheaper!
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund Год назад
@brucemitchell5637 The first issue I have is I cant get to the bottom of my table to use a nut. The other problem with using bolts is that over time, the loose fitting bolt will cause the hole in the table to wallow out. You don't get that problem with the precision fit of the shoulder bolt. Drill rod is another alternative to shoulder bolts.
