Getting all the welding done on the custom Buick bumper on the 49 Chevy Fleetline. Even got to use the cut and butt method to install section in the bumper where the original bumper guards use to mount. Building bumper brackets to mount the bumper as well.

People watching this who have never done this type of fabbing will have no idea how much time is required to create something like this. I'm hoping there are folk out there to replace us, but sadly in 20 years i don't think there will be anyone left to replicate this type of ability to fabricate. Keep it up Tony!

I stumbled upon this channel a few years ago. I could easily watch a two hour long fitzee video. It's satisfying watching each part and panel come together one piece at a time.

Hey Tony, I just wanted to say I really like the way you take the time to explain what you are going to do and then show the process. I know you put a lot of time and effort into getting each part to fit right the way you want and it shows in your final product. Great video and tips to help how to do a great job, keep up the great videos and work on the projects. Later

Back in the old days, chrome was done properly. First they copper plated the item, then nickel plated it, then chrome plated it. That's why really old chrome-work is usually in a lot better condition that more recent stuff, which is often just chrome plated over steel , so it doesn't last like the old stuff did.
@georgebettiol8338
@georgebettiol8338 9 дней назад
When referring to 'decorative chrome plating' - eg. bumpers - you cannot chrome plate the steel without the part being nickel plated. However, I agree that some of the current chromed metal items are subpar - usually because they skimp on the nickel plating - i.e. by applying one layer of nickel as opposed to the traditional two layers. Needless to say, a copper layer is normally applied before the nickel to provide for a superior finish - i.e. 'fills' all the imperfections.

Sometimes the most important tool in a shop is a huge, flat metal table! I worked in a custom and restoration body shop for a while that had no tables. After being there a short time, I told the owner that we needed some tables to work on. As soon as he bought one, the body man/painter who had been there for years put all of his work on it. I didn't stay there very long.

If I came into a ton of money, I'd try to purchase this car from the owner. Having all the brightwork chromed and picking out a beautiful candy paint color would be a lot of fun, maybe have a few thin scallops painted on as well, or some subtle seaweed style ghost flames. Maybe some Cadillac sombrero styled wheel covers. By the way, fantastic job on the video editing, Fitz!

While watching you using the grinder left handed it seemed to me that it is a much safer side to be on. I tried switching to my left hand today and I wasn’t getting a face full of sparks and the front of my coveralls wasn’t full of hot metal dust. I’m going to be a left handed cutter and butter from now on. The tips were good.👍

very nice work For sure the quality of the plating is very good with a copper and a nickel underneath coats and for such an old and weathered part, the chrome is in a very good shape, no peeling and no pitting, I can't say the same thing of the chromes of the late syxties up produced cars excellent video.
