Now THAT was really fun to watch - I was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma when you published this last year. I'm well now and really really enjoyed the mudding - RWF
I love how the poulan has the smallest motor of the bunch however out performs all. It’s is a black Husqvarna after all anyways so you can’t expect any less. 👌🏻
Y’all look like your having a blast. Even reminds me of my old stomping grounds back home in Florida. Can’t wait to get back home and ride some trails with my brothers.
chud327 I’m from Lisbon, Fl. Spent a lot of my time with my dad and my brothers huntin and fishin in the Ocala forest. I saw the sugar sand trails and the water it took me back lol!
one of my friends has some heavy cast iron garden tractors he uses to tow/hall things around the yard. he filled all his tiers with washer fluid to add wight. once i get decent tiers in the front im doing that to in the hopes the lower center of gravity makes me flip and roll less.
Very interesting OP. I wish someone someday would explain why the designers of these rear ends decided not to lock them in the first place? The so called positrac rear ends are anything but, and have always frustrated me in a slippery spot, weather it be on my lawn tractor or in my pickup truck. It seems so stupid but they must have had a reason which I can not figure out.
I don't know, but maybe a locked rear would tear up the grass a bit when you turn. I would like to have a lock button on the dash or a lever like on my tractor. I had a 2wd Blazer with a factory locker, it was so helpful and I would have paid extra for it. It was not full time locked and would not tear up grass while turning, that would be a super addition to anything with 4 wheels... Thanks for watching.
You could be right. It would be interesting to see a locker mow grass and see if that is actually the case, What I know for sure is, the people who make these things think every lawn is completely flat, and the ground perfectly level and grass all uniform. But in my 50 something years, I've never had a lawn like that. They have all been uneven, bumpy, hills, slopes, and the worst problem is the deck height adjustment. I've never had a lawn where I've been able to lower the deck lower than the second highest notch. Like these idiots think ppl are mowing golf courses with their mowers??? FYI I just found this: 'The reason you'd want the wheels to rotate at different speeds is so when the car turns, the outer wheels will move faster than the inner ones'. HM, OK, THEN THIS: 'The disadvantage to this is that if one or more wheels have lost contact with the road -- for example, if you're bumping over rocks in an off-road vehicle -- the wheel that no longer is in contact with the road will be spinning away as if it's on the ground. Now, why would that be a problem? Because in my experience, when you get in a slippery spot, only ONE wheel turns AT ALL. THe other drive wheel NEVER turns and that's why it's so easy to get stuck. I've seen this problem even in so called four wheel drive machines. Unless the differentials are locked on both axles, only one wheel turns per axle. I've seen four wheel snow plow trucks get stuck, because only one front and one rear wheel turn. Then they have to get out and lock the diff's to get unstuck. IT's a crazy world.
Best reply lately! You are right about they must think we all live on golf courses, I don't either. And when you are stuck, the tire with the least traction is the one that spins, that is why you are stuck. In out last TroyBilt video, it was going through the ditches with one of the back tires up in the air and that was my favorite part!
these are for mowing grass and if you had a spool door locked rear end when turning it would scuff up the surface of the grass especially on fine and high-end grasses so that is why they did it also to have a much tighter turning radius which was probably the number one reason I'm glad I could answer that for you
The dually is not locked, not yet. The troy's rear doesn't look very strong, but only time will tell. I will let you know as soon as it breaks. Thanks for watching.
Actually, I think I did my math wrong. That engine is now on my boat motor and Emily's engine came with her. It gets confusing when you have so many. Thanks for watching the oldies, that rocks !!
I was just wondering if the welded transaxle is still holding together or of it gave out at some point? Ive been thinking about welding the transaxle in my murray but dont want it to go out while im on the trails 😅
on my John Deere X500 i have a small yellow pedel on the left side if i get stuck you stop press pedel in with your foot then the axle locks up, it has helped me every time to get unstuck.
I wish I had a magical pedal to push that locks the rear. My tractor has one, but none of my mower. The X500 is probably a better, heavier, and more expensive mower. Thanks for watching.
Hi chud327, Yeah the reason i brought it up was in case you see one for a good deal you will know it has a axle locker on it. I enjoy your video's, really liked your pontoon boat too.
I think that pontoon boat episode #4 is my favorite video yet. I will be hard to top, but part 5 should be coming out next week. I would love to find a rear locker pedal mower for sure!
Great fun make sure you teach them boys if that thing starts to go over backwards to roll away from it or jump I know those little tractors aren't munch but if they go over backwards on top of a young fellow that only weighs 130 lb it's not going to feel very good I wonder if you can make some wheelie bars that wouldn't hamper off-roading ability them tractors are junk but you can't replace those boys keep having fun and stay safe
Since you had the rope tied to a higger point on one of thr mowers it will have an advantage because when tention is put on it. It will lift up the other mower and take weight off of it
man alive...what a comparison video...if this doesnt show completely that the merits of a "poor-mans-positraction"...are definetly worth the labor, i dont know what will....great video...im sure the boys have figured out tho, a turn at high speeds on dry pavement is a different bird altogether too...to my knowledge nascar still uses open or unlocked diffs on the super-speedways for that very reason....but its always kool when a mentor has already crossed the bridge in question, and just reaches into his files and says, here ya go.....once again the dad spending time with his sons cant miss, although its sorely missing from our culture today, but i know i dont have to tell a former school-teacher that, who saw it everyday in the young boys faces in class.....and thanks tim...er...uhm....i mean...chud 327...kutgw!!!!
You will be happy to know that we put the rear fenders on today, I was worried about the bare feet belt issue too. I may have to quit taking them there, they try to flip too often... Thanks for watching.
Chud, a hydrostatic rear end can be locked but it's never been the best outcome for me, I had he same exact John Deere and when I welded the read end it tore it out. You're better off finding a manual rear end and lock it. Good job tho on the video
I found them on Craigslist for $140 for 4. They fit on 8 inch wheels. I searched "atv tires" and "golf cart tires" to find them. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I found mine on Craigslist by searching "atv tires" and "golf cart tires". Golf carts usually run 8" wheels. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
The Deere and the Troy both have the same size tires and wheels. They are 22X11X8's and then wheels are 8 inch. the dually back tires are 20X10X8's. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
I wish it were locked, but then again, I know it is going to break as soon as I lock it. I need to find a spare rear that I could lock and install and see what happens. Thanks for watching.
IKR, it has some kind of internal pressure override bypass that shuts it down every time you give it a little challenge. I need to find away around that and lock it or just get a manual. Thanks for watching.
I don't think a spicer would hold for that. Mine sure wouldn't. You can't do a welded locker for them, tho, because the spider gears are so small the weld won't grab.
+chud327 yes I know what you were saying and I like the way you said it it totally makes sense cuz it's a new bushing but it's a used one from probably a parts tractor or something awesome keep making videos I'm so sad I lived in Canada and the reason I got upset with these tractors there was a guy selling one that had an rd400 which is a twin cylinder 2-stroke 400 street bike motor in it and the ad all it said runs drives shifts throughout years brakes work and they said it was a little rough but it looks good to me and the asking price was $400 the ad was on there for months I find it I contact the guy and then he sells it the next day go figure and then I fell in love with them and had another guy lined up for a nice old Ford hundred dollars not running but you know it would start right up with the twin headlights in front looked cool never got it and now I moved back to California and there's really nowhere around to use it but I watch your videos and others to stay satisfied LOL
id wanna weld up a floor board on that troy bilt one slip of that guys foot and that wouldnt be good those pulleys dont look too safe spinning like that 8:38
