David, thank you for this teaching. I stumbled upon your message recently and it has been incredibly helpful. Im a suicide crisis intervention specialist and have been seeking and searching for something for wellness and well being. I realize now, the search is over, its been with me all the while. Ive been seeking for some sort of tradition or approach but its been within the whole time. This teaching would be so helpful for practitioners such as myself. This has completed my search for wellness and well being. Its been really helpful to balance stress and made me more present for those i work with
This is about the most useful talks on taking care of one's body - and addictions to food etc. I used to worry about how to eat healthily ( which I liked ) and at the same time, worried that I was suppressing desires to eat the wrong stuff - as I knew that suppression can only increase the desire to eat, or whatever it is. Believing the thoughts is the problem - believing that the " I want " is who I am ! this is one of the best explanations - many thanks, David.
this guy acts like comfort and luxury isn't a good thing...good food tastes good, swimming in tropical waters feels good, being around friends and loved ones is incredible...i've felt content watching a movie with a loved one....just because that is a creature comfort, doesn't mean its a bad thing... also, he acts like everybody is suffering, not everyone is living in pain and sorrow...look at millionaires, people with healthy relationships, in fulfilling careers, many do not need to meditate...they just do what makes them happy... thats the key, just be honest with yourself and do what makes you happy
I was toxically shamed since early childhood; therefore my mental health was impaired. I had fewer essential neurotransmitters so I didn't feel great. Life was a burden. I was plagued by a toxic energy field that felt like a weight. Only attention can save us.
I like many of your videos; you seem to regularly come back to the fitness/nutrition thing though. The question that comes to mind for me though is, if you can detach from your thoughts, and essentially from interacting with the world, what's the point of fitness? At that point why does it matter if you're super fat, or too thin, or whatever? I am big on being in shape and enjoy it, but if somebody is on that level, and "enlightened", then I'm curious what the point even is. I guess at a certain level I conflate enlightenment with rejection of the material almost in its entirety.
I think it’s like the tuning of an instrument. A guitar string can be plucked and it will make a sound whether it’s in tune or not. You can still play a song on the guitar, but it will sound off. You might say well what’s the standard tuning? Is there one? Well, the more finely tuned your instrument (body), the closer you can get to playing a beautiful song. The journey to discover how you want your instrument tuned is just that - the journey.
Well, I'd say we are here experiencing a physical body and it would be so much better to be fit and healthy without being excessive about it - like having a car - better to keep it in good shape even if you are not your car !
No one argues that personality is real, other than a concept that occurs in thought. Anything that you can see cannot be what you are, the body is seen. Hold out your hand; it does not see you; you see it. You are apart from it to see it. These direct inquiries are not refuted anywhere. Please attempt to find evidence, and if you do, share it with me.
You can try it yourself. Try to prove that you are a body. Afterwards, try to prove that you are a mind. You'll end up unable to prove it. Instead, you'll end up proving that you HAVE a body and that you HAVE a mind. Every time you think, it is merely mind activity. You HAVE mind activity, but you are something else than your mind activity. So, you are not what you think you are. You are not your mind activity. So, the next question is, - who or what is it, that has a body and a mind. What ever you identy that "who or what" to be, - that is what you truly are.... and that is neither a body, nor a mind. I have met it once, when I asked myself "who am I, when I am not thinking". (self inquiry) Others meet it during meditation. It is quite startling to meet or experience it the first time. One HAS to experience it oneself in order to understand, because the understanding you get is beyond the thinking mind and language. (which stems from the thinking mind). So, you can never understand it by being told by someone else. David Parrish gives exellent pointers in all his videos, - your job is to go looking for that to which he is pointing. If you look up "koshas" you'll read that there are five: 1: Body 2: Emotion 3: Thinking 4: Wisdom 5: Bliss Normal everyday consciesness is merely comprised of the first 3 of those koshas. So, you'll have to relax and sink-in deeper to experience the additional two. When going beyond the fifth (bliss) you'll experience who or what you are. It is also called a Samadhi experience. Maybe, try watching "Samadhi Movie Part 1" here on RU-vid It is an hour long and it is full of pointers to who or what you are. And these pointers are chosen from all cultures, from all continents around the globe, for as long as we have recorded human history... and they all point to the same as David Parrish is pointing to. He calls it the wisdom teachings/practices. However, pay attension to the beginning of the movie, when the narrator clearly states that this (who or what you are) has to be experienced first hand, and is not something that someone else can explain you. Other people can only point to it, because the understanding is beyond language/mind and therefore it can't be explained in words. Words can only point. It HAS to be experienced. And the peculiar thing is, that it is a non-experience. Meaning, that it is that which remains, when everything else subsides. That is why some people chose to sit in quite medidation until everything quites down and then they are one with that which they truly are. There are other ways to experience it, but meditation is one. Try finding it yourself, - it is within you. Best of luck to you.
The reason ‘you’ can’t do what’s needed to have a healthy body is because there is no ‘you’. The ‘you’ you think you are is illusory, a dream character. How can a dream character determine its role in the dream. There is no ‘doer’. Period!
It's about balance because if you don't think about the circumstances it will create other circumstances that will create worse conditions. If you don't think about how to make money then pretty soon you won't have anything to eat and that will be worse. Everything is about Balance not one way or another.
I did not say thinking is itself an issue. It can be beneficial if one is awake and does not attend to the useless thoughts that occur and negate well-being. Yes, the balance between the functional way of being and the essential consciousness.
@@ZenPsych Yes I agree, but some teachers talk so much against thinking, the student hears that and makes an enemy of his own mind. And that is way worse. We need to befriend the mind while taking control of it. My mind serves me well and we are friends, not enemies. I give it some freedom until its time to meditate. But when I say, now we are going to meditate, it subsides in 5 minutes. Did you try the instant no mind technique?
I have invented this technique many years ago. It is a trick to instantly bring your attention to home base. "With open eyes, look as if, what you are seeing is projected on the back of your scull." That is it. If you are doing it correctly, you will instantly experience the state of No-mind or IS-ness. And immedietly you will experience an up-welling of the energy of Bliss...... If you fall out of the state, just notice it and bring it right back. The longer you practice this the more it becomes your Natural state. The more you practice this, the longer you will be able to hold it. So, I call it the "IS" technique. Instant-Silence technique. Where you can experience your IS-ness..... instantly. You could say, just be the IS-ness. This is like an Open-Eye meditation, that you can do all day. You can even drive your car, while doing the IS-ness. It is our Original and Natural state, the No-Mind of IS-ness..... Just keep buzzing with IS-ness! Cheers! EvenStar LoveAnanda
He can talk against whatever he wants this is his channel 😂. The point of his channel is about non dual states, that’s the entire point of his talk, to transcend thinking.
@@schofieldna I haven’t missed any point because one wasn’t being made. It’s too generalised and doesn’t take into account neurodivergence. Creative people are those who can access and make sense of chaos. Those who can’t acknowledge that are missing the point
@@jonnygemmel2243 He made many thoughtful points throughout the whole video. The video is full of reasoning and good sense. You just missed the whole point.
@@wesleylloyd3403 Obviously you think Jesus Christ is a personality rather than the reality of who you really are. clinging is not a good idea let go is the better option and that is always the way of those who trust/reality
It’s just nonsense to say that there’s no evidence that you are a physical body 🤷🏼♂️. Of course you are a physical body in a physical reality. You are also a personality, a complex collection of psychological phenomena, built up over your life. Thinking can be flawed and it’s processes damaged, rendering it inefficient, even harmful, but it’s dangerous to suggest to damaged people that nothing about them exists. It could leave people feeling even more disassociated, detached and lost.
getting in touch with body ( breathing, tendering to its needs physical needs as what to eat , see, touch, smell - all done with mindfulness) takes away anxiety.
What MUST be understood is the “scientific” fact that the world as we know it and perceive it does not exist according to our current model of the universe 99.9999 percent of an atom is the empty space between elementary particles this information may not be useful it may actually be hurtful to us as human beings living on this planet right now but it is a FACT at least if science is the objective standard we’re setting for ourselves

Hes saying that the egoic mind structure doesn't exist truly. He's trying to free people from the chains we condition ourselves to believe in. He's bringing us to the totality of existence.
Mr. You are so deceived by the SELF that its actually sad i was there too. The road you are on is what we call the BOTTOMLESS PIT! And we all know who was thrown there towards the end, the serpent (SELF) that deceived humanity out of being witnesses of God to being dedicated to themselves. You better come out of there if you dont believe me, I will check you 10 years later still seeking for IT. Jesus is It . He will give you rest
@@schofieldna yes, God is good and based on your mockery you don't have him in you, you are deceived you are happy but you are actually miserable and wicked.
@@kakaerickson8850 Im a very happy person in fact, 😄. I also love God. What I am laughing at is just how out of place and ignorant you are to come to some one else’s channel that is about the search for truth and to preach unfounded dogma, whereas this channel encourages thoughtful, personal investigation of the truth via self inquiry and meditation.
@@schofieldna yes , what people like you need is a person who is not stopping at anything from calling Lies, LIES! And you have no idea what happiness is.. were you really happy you would not have mental boundaries , you are attached to an opinion. DETACH!! . Then we can talk of happiness! And I will go on and on telling this poor soul alongside others here that these are just doctrines of demons. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. Only shimmer lights that thrill you along the way but the deeper you go, the darker it becomes.
