Good choice on the plywood Jaime.. Marine grade’s main point of difference over exterior grade plywood is the aesthetics of the actual timber used....... so a marine grade will have exceptional standard of finish & fit of the final layers of veneer & be of a select species (Hoop pine, maple, etc). The extra $$ spent would only have been covered by your carpet🙄 It’s really looking like a car again now👌🏼

I have to agree. My only concern was how durable it would be, but considering it is used for caravan floors, it should do the job. Just got to make sure I seal it properly.

I concur with John H in all regards. The gap you refer to (where rear tailshaft cover meets gearbox cover) is best filled with a strip of rubber, or carpet , of appropriate thickness, glued to top of rear cover, and secured very firmly by the gearbox cover being bolted down. ( Quite staggered by cost of marine ply; when good old uncle Ted made mine in 1970, I'm sure it was a bit cheaper............)

Jamie, my understanding is that the floor sits on top of the rear half of the tunnel (driveshaft cover), and then the front half (transmission tunnel) sits on top of the floor. That certainly makes everything line up on our TF.

So you mean the way I had it at the end of the video?

Yes, as per the end of your video. I think the carpet takes up the gasp under the transmission tunnel, but I note that there is a rubber cover for the transmission sold as an option by Moss and I think Abingdon, presumably to cut noise and heat transfer to the cabin, but may also help with covering the gap.

John Hunter I did find an old one from the previous owner. It does have a split in it, but it might still be usable?

MG REBUILD it would be under the carpet anyway, so you could repair it and re-use it. We don’t have one in our pile of parts to test the theory.

could you expand on the comment how to cutout where the chassis body bolts are proud beneath the floors?
@MGREBUILD
@MGREBUILD 3 года назад
Sure. On the old floorboards where the bolts that hold down the body to the chassis the floorboards were cut out on the right hand side. On here other one the same area had been trimmed down by a router to make it thinner so it doesn’t touch the bolt
