Hi all!
Never had this in my entire life. So much difficulty to focus on my reading.

I completely share your feelings about Kairos. I like your "I couldn't be bothered" mantra about this frustrating and boring book.

It started off really well, the 40 first pages were stellar.

Today was a slump day for me. I can’t afford too many of these if I want to start _Les Mis_ on time. You finished a book, engaged with others - you’ll be fine! 👍 (I hope)

I read a historical novella from Denise Mina called Rizzio. It was about the murder of David Rizzio, Mary Queen of Scots private secretary. I thought it was tense and really well done. I didn't feel historical, but very immediate. Mina is mostly known as a crime, thriller writer. I think that experience helps her create these intense, vivid historical dramas. I read The Bitch. by Pilar Quintana a few months. So good, but so dark. When I'm in a slump, I like to pick up things that are way outside of my usual taste. I think that "break" gives my mind a rest and uses a different reading gear for awhile????

I wouldn't worry too much about your slump. just wait for the right mood and right books to come along.

I’ve had Three Fires on my TBR, thanks for reminding me to get back to it. David Sedaris, is for me, the lifeline to get out of a reading slump. Even when the essays seem to big, the diary entries are small enough that I can conquer those.

Reading slumps are the worst! Totally depressing. I sometimes think that it needs to be the right book at the right time. If it doesn’t line up it’s a DNF.

I'm not particularly excited about the Int'l Booker this year either. I do want to read *Crooked Plow* ; it's been on my TBR for a couple of years already - but I'll be reading it in the original Portuguese; it was a big hit in Brazil, so hoping it'll hold up. Sorry the Dutch was bad. I read two Jenny Erpenbecks and thought they were... okay. Meh. Not rushing out to read more, especially a sad DDR romance. 🥱 The Dutch version of the Jelinek is on GR - is it the English translation that went poof? She seems like a writer I would not choose to get out of a reading slump! Sounds like she tends difficult and depressing... I loved *Afterlives* - hope you enjoy it as well! I have to say when you mention "I've 'only' read 6/13 of the longlist" - your reading 'slump' is *way* ahead of my normal, non-slump, what I think is a fairly respectable reading pace! 😂
