My friend's Dad was from Japan and when he'd pick us up from junior high he always had one of this guy's albums playing in his car, so it was really funny to me when city pop blew up a few years back. I didn't realize he made a Christmas song though, so this was cool to hear.
I’m a big fan of Tatsuro and Band-Maid. He is heavily influenced by American "Wall of Sound" like Phil Spector. In a past interview, he said that he used "The Swingle Singers" as a reference for the chorus part of this song (quoting Pachelbel's Canon) and used more than 50 voices to record the multiple recordings with his own voice.
Tatsuro has also released three a cappella albums, "ON THE STREET CORNER," in which he recorded the songs using only his own voice without using any instruments.
In 2015, this song achieved 30 consecutive years in the top 100 of the Original Confidence Company's hit chart in Japan, and in March 2016, it was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the song with the longest consecutive years in the Japanese singles chart.
