Very cool to find a recent song reaction to this tune. I was introduced to this song by a good Japanese friend of mine 6 or 7 years ago. Apparently, it is one of the most popular Christmas songs in Japan to this day. The original Japanese version became famous when it was featured in a series of 1980s commercials for Japan Rail’s (JR) Xmas Express. The commercials, I feel, are well done for the time. The English in this version is actually good, too, especially when compared to the English typically found in Japanese music. Although I wasn’t around for much of the ‘80s, I have to say that this song really gives me a sense of nostalgia. Since learning of it, it has grown to be one of the songs I listen to every year.
